by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Stolen from the Rick Noriega Blog. -kt

Have you seen the amazing results of the latest Rasmussen poll?

Rasmussen. 5/1. Likely voters. MoE 4%

John Cornyn (R) 47%
Rick Noriega (D) 43%
Other 3%
Not Sure 8%

Dragging down the Republican ticket, President Bush's approval rating is only 39% while Republican Gov. Rick Perry's approval rating is an even lower 34%.

Let's keep up the pressure- donate to Rick's campaign!

Continue reading below to see who all has been writing about this exciting news.

Daily Kos: TX-Sen, Pres: Texas is in play all around

Texas is purple this year... That is nothing short of remarkable, and a hint that this may be a top-tier race before long... Noriega wins the 18-29 cohort by a stunning 61-25. How's that for a taste of the future of Texas politics?

Talking Points Memo: Poll: GOP Senator Barely Edging Challenger -- In Texas
In a sign that the Senate Republicans could be in danger in even states usually deemed safe for them, a new Rasmussen poll of Texas finds that Sen. John Cornyn (R) could very well have a race on his hands against Democrat Rick Noriega, a state Representative and Iraq War veteran.

Texas Monthly: Texas is in Play
Two other interesting facts from the same poll: Rick Perry's job performance is rated good or excellent by only 34 percent of Texans; 28 percent say it's poor. George W. Bush is rated good or excellent by 39 percent of Texans; 45 percent say it's poor.

Texas Observer: Cornyn Vulnerable?
Democrat Rick Noriega's campaign for U.S. Senate received a huge boost this morning.

Trail Blazers: Is Cornyn in Trouble?
John Cornyn could be knocked out in November by Democrat Rick Noriega.

Texas Politics Blog: New Poll Shows Cornyn Barely Ahead of Noriega
...a survey like this will help Noriega make the case for national donors that they should give to him because he could win.

Politico: Cornyn "potentially vulnerable"
Cornyn is likely suffering from his close alignment with President Bush: The poll found that just 39 percent of Texans think Bush is doing a "good or excellent job," compared to 45 percent who think his performance is "poor." Cornyn has also had some issues over his long-standing ties with controversial televangelist John Hagee, although he told reporters last month, "I'm really not concerned that it'll become an issue."

Off the Kuff: Some Good Poll News from Rasmussen
Sweet. If the poll numbers stay in this range, we can hope for even more involvement from the national folks. All it should take is the belief that this year is unlike any other. I don't see why anyone wouldn't be open to that idea by now.

Swing State Project
This seems too good to be true... If this is anywhere near accurate, the results are shocking.

Burnt Orange Report
There is still an uphill battle, but these polls have to be a positive sign.  They exist as proof that all of our work for the rest of the year should be worth it.  If any of you have avoided donating to the Noriega campaign for fear of a loss -- now might be a good time to redeem yourself.

Election Advantage
It's so funny the way these things work: at the same time polls are showing Republican incumbents with comfortable leads in Maine, Oregon, and Minnesota, the incumbent in Texas looks like he's hanging on for dear life.

The Walker Report
It's time to add United States Senator John Cornyn to the list of potentially vulnerable Republican incumbents in Election 2008.

Legal Fiction
Holy ballots, Batman! It looks REALLY good for Democrats this fall if Texas looks even remotely close at this stage.

Somervell County Salon
Let's see. Most Unpopular President... Ever. And his Best Bud, John Cornyn.

That elevator is going.... DOWN.

Senatus
Any candidate up for re-election that does not poll above 50% is considered vulnerable.

The Texas Blue and others still to come!

Great news!!!! (3.00 / 1)
I can hardly wait till I can be proud of a US Texas Senator instead of making excuses!!!  Rick will be a great Senator and we can win this race.

Good news... (0.00 / 0)
This really is good news.  Of course, money talks and running statewide in TX is NOT cheap.  We're 181 days out from E Day.  I'd estimate a conservative amount for this race would be 9 Mil.  That means the campaign needs to average $50k a day in fundraising from now on out. With federal caps in place that means the donor base needs to be VERY large.

In an ideal world, Obama would send an email to his TX list asking for his people to chip in to help out Rick.  Clinton could do the same thing.

Here's a though: Why not have the two campaigns compete to see who can raise the most money for Noriega in a week?   Make it a contest to see who really can help out candidates in "emerging markets" (ie: traditionally red states that might be ready to flip).

I have previously predicted (0.00 / 0)

that Rick Noriega will be elected to the US Senate - - if we play our cards right and deliver the right messages.

There is a demonstrated influence on Cornyn by those who used to run the show at Enron.

It's time to add United States Senator John Cornyn to the list of
potentially vulnerable Republican incumbents in Election 2008. The
latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state find Cornyn
leading Democratic state legislator Rick Noriega* *by just four
percentage points, 47% to 43%.

Wow (0.00 / 0)
Great compilation, KT. This is awesome, and really something that will come in handy down the line as Rick makes his pitches to various groups.

Well done.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.
