Bloggers for Cornyn Add More Racial Commentary

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 01:00 AM CDT

David posted yesterday about some of the Bloggers for Cornyn taking "high offense" at Rick Noriega's "en Espanol" version of his campaign website (yeah, seriously...) and another comparing it to their disagreements with businesses that offer a greeting in "english and mexican".

Well, the racially toned remarks continued today as two more Bloggers for Cornyn added to the conversation.

Added as a note prior to posting the same forwarded "fundraising facts" tipsheet sent around by the Cornyn campaign, the author of "but, that's just my opinoin" writes...

There is no way in hell Noriega can win with a name like that.....

What kind of name would that be? A Hispanic one? That's either suggesting the writer has a few racial issues of their own or suggests a rather low opinion of the Texas electorate. (I'm going to assume the author has no problem with the "Rick" in Rick Noriega.)

Or was he alluding to another historical Noriega without having to say that outright? We don't know... but hey, that didn't stop yet another Blogger for Cornyn (Ellis County Observer) from illustrating that point (after saying the "en Espanol" button was causing a controversy!).

Note: Is it just me or can someone have fun with the Texas Noriega and the 80s Noriega?

And then posts this image.

This is no better than the right-wing blather about Barack "Hussein" Obama which hold about zero weight with any voters. No significant number of Texans are really going to think that a now imprisoned, former Panamanian general is really the Democratic nominee in Texas for U.S. Senate. It's just right-wing racially tinged fear-mongering.

Drop Rick Noriega a donation to thank the Bloggers for Cornyn for their fine work this week.

I hope not (0.00 / 0)
then again, thousands of Texans vote for Gene Kelly.

Yeah but (0.00 / 0)
Gene Kelly is exactly the same name for both people. And an American.

Them pointing this out has nothing to with any real legitimate concern about name confusion. It has everything to do with a racially charged subtext.

just saying that Texas voters might be dumb enough to fall for it.

not really (0.00 / 0)
That's like saying voters are going to vote against Obama because they'll think he's part of the Hussein family. The right-wing noise machine pedals that in the same way this is.

Uh...voters are not going to vote for Obama (0.00 / 0)
because they think he is part of the Hussein family.

seriously. You need to talk with my inlaws.

Some texas voters are pretty stupid people.

I'm a little uncomfortable (3.00 / 1)
pointing out the fact that there are a bunch of racist jerks out there. We all know they're there, intemperately airing their prejudices on the internet for all to see. We also know they're almost exclusively going to support the GOP candidates.

But given all the recent "elitist" charges being thrown about, is it really necessary to rub people's noses in this right now? Of course it's despicable, there's absolutely no debate about that.

If we're going to take issue with people getting all bent out of shape with the "guilt by association problems" of Barack Obama and Reverend Wright and others, we can hardly do the same thing ouselves with a bunch of loose cannon, asshole commenters on blog threads. I'm just sayin.'

Hmmm... (3.00 / 1)
Since both Democrats AND Republicans have elected hispanics to serve statewide, I don't see where they can even rationally justify their views to themselves.  I just hope the campaign has a tracker and their camera batteries are ALWAYS charged... you never know when macacaca could strike!!

That's the spirit (0.00 / 0)
Shouldn't our media ask Cornyn to renounce and repudiate the comments of these bloggers associated with him.  Even if indirectly associated.  I mean they exist in the same time and space - that's a close enough association to tar and feather someone these days.

And I agree with you on that "macacaca moment" - with corny, it's bound to happen.  He's just such a tolerate politician with respect to people of brown color. (scarcasm)

I don't know if we'll get anything good (0.00 / 0)
when I met him back in '04 he had all the personality of a rotted log.  It's usually the guys with personality that have the loose lips.

Hey KT,

Where were you when Pastor's for Obama were adding more racist anti-American sermons from the pulpit? Is his racist support ok because Obama is a Democrat?

Col. Rick Noriega (and yes, I think ANY time his name is mentioned his military rank/title SHOULD be used) has defended our country's borders against narco-terrorists.  He's been in the line of fire from drug cartels trying to illegally break into the US to peddle their goods.  Where was John Cornyn?  Why didn't he pick up a gun to join the Lt. Colonel?  How many times has the enemy fired on HIM?  How many times has he had to fire on the enemy to defend America and the American way of life?

If we REALLY look into the Manuel Noriega affair we see he met with George Bush Sr. on NUMEROUS occasions.  We see he WORKED FOR the Republicans and they supported his efforts to bring drugs into this country, so they could use him as a slush fund to funnel profits from Iranian arms sales to the contras!!!  The IRANIANS, the very people we're now trying to prevent from arming.

This attack disgusts me.  A man who has fought ON THE FRONT LINES to defeat narco-terrorists being attacked by a man who is part of a political machine that funded a narco-power in order to give weapons to a terrorist state intent on destroying the West!  The height of hypocracy!

That's Lt. Col. (0.00 / 0)
You missed it the first time.

And, come on, I'm sure John Cornyn's been on at least one hunting trip with Cheney -- but that's friendly fire, I suppose.
