Happy Texas Independence Day

John Steinbeck:
"I have said that Texas is a state of mind, but I think it is more than that.  It is a mystique closely approximating a religion.  And this is true to the extent that people either passionately love Texas or passionately hate it ...For all its enormous range of space, climate, and physical appearance, and for all the internal squabbles, contentions, and strivings, Texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of America.  Rich, poor, Panhandle, Gulf, city, country, Texas is the obsession, the proper study and the passionate possession of all Texans."

We celebrated here in H-Town last night by (0.00 / 0)
watching the Rice Owls hogtie the 'Horns in the College Baseball Classic.

"We" being me, Kuffner, and APCB.

Ah spring; baseball, March Madness, hay fever. :sniffle:

Austin (0.00 / 0)
is the only part of Texas worth a damn.  We should secede from the rest of this god-forsaken state.

El Paso (0.00 / 0)
El Paso is "other" Texas too and should be allowed to become part of New Mexico.

Fort Worth -- Where the West Begins (3.00 / 2)
I beg to differ with those of you who find worth only in the city in which you live.  As a native of Fort Worth who has live here 37 of my 47 years, I invite you to visit my hometown.  It's "where the west begins."  I must admit my bias in presenting things about Fort Worth.  I think this is a great city, and I hope to spend the rest of my days here.  One point about Fort Worth that can't be denied is the quality of the museums that we have.  While you're here you can enjoy some fine Mexican food, take in a minor league baseball game and see a downtown that has been reborn in the past 20 years.  Please come here some weekend to see that we offer culture as well as fun.

While I'm here I'll defend Houston, too.  I lived there for 10 years.  Houston seems to get a bum rap in North Texas, but it's a great city.  If you can't find something to do there, well, you're just not looking.  There's food of all kinds, NASA, professional sports and some of the best community theater that I've ever seen.

I also find great joy in traveling to Prairie Hill and Dublin.  My roots go back to these small towns.

God-forsaken?  By no means!  Texas is God blessed.
