Sen. Kirk Watson Endorses Barack Obama

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 01:00 PM CST

A big announcement from Kirk Watson, the State Senator who represents Austin (SD-14) which has the most national delegates allocated out of the Texas primary (8).

Make no mistake, this is a movement rooted in policy as much as spirit.  And in Senator Obama, we have found our leader.

Senator Obama will seize opportunities for a strong 21st Century America.  He will create a foreign policy that strengthens and protects us.  He will advocate for universal health care that works and makes sense.  He will invest in the purest form of economic development - our teachers, schools and universities.  And he will support clean power and technologies that will save our planet and our economy in this new century.

At this unique moment in our history, Senator Obama is focused on possibilities, not politics.  He offers solutions that will unify our country and lead us into the future.

Perhaps most of all, he knows that hope matters.

Emiliano Zapata also endorses Obama (0.00 / 0)
Where do I sign to make this endorsement official?

Give us a good sound bite (0.00 / 0)
"I would rather die standing than live on my knees!".  I've always loved that quote.

Any word on Senfronia, KT? (0.00 / 0)
Press releases for the Houston Obama Volunteer HQ opening had her listed as a supporter, but I'd swear she pledged to Hillary last year sometime.

Yes I'd like to know too (0.00 / 0)
There are two conflicting pieces of information out there.  No one says she can't switch.

Charlie Gonzalez Picks Obama (0.00 / 0)
Congressman Charlie Gonzalez has also endorsed Obama.

Rep Gallegos (0.00 / 0)

"I made a determination that it's time to pass the mantle on to a new set of folks at the national level."

"Obama's life story and his values are so much closer to the Latino community than any candidate other than Bill Richardson."

"Part of what drives me is his life story. It's a fascinating life story. It's more than just the issues, it's his values. I think Hispanics and South Texas should really be able to relate to him."

For a blog that says "he is the most respected Latino leader in Texas" (0.00 / 0)
you think they would know that his last name is spelled "Gallego" ... not Gallegos.

Of course, it was a mix up between Pete Gallego and Mario Gallegos.

Gallegos, whose courageous stand to stop the Voter ID bill last session will always be remembered, has in fact endorsed Hillary Clinton.

apologies for my mistake (0.00 / 0)
I remember reading the story Sunday at the Rio Grande Guardian.

Currently, their front page is running:

The Guardian would like to apologize to our readers for any inconvenience caused Monday. Our story on state Rep. Pete Gallego's endorsement of Barack Obama attracted 2.3 million hits. This caused our site to crash. Thanks again for making the Guardian the most popular border newspaper.

I should have read the blog I linked more carefully.  My apologies to Rep. Gallego as well. And thanks for endorsing Obama.

so I guess (0.00 / 0)
Kirk Watson doesn't believe in mandates?

He will advocate for universal health care that works and makes sense.

I do agree that possibility is the key word for Obama.  He could be either JFK or Jimmy Carter.  Let's hope the former.
