TX-10 Fundraising as of Jan 12, 2008

by: countrycoder

Sat Jan 12, 2008 at 05:23 PM CST

So far the information about fundraising is lopsided, as only Larry Joe Doherty has released his fundraising numbers for the last quarter of 2007.

                                            Larry Joe Doherty                  Dan Grant

2nd/3rd Quarter                         $125,000                        $105,000

4Th Quarter                                 $150,000                             ???

The campaign is a candidate’s mechanism to deliver his message. A campaign requires structure, organization and money. Because TX-10 is composed of two media markets, it will take about $1.5 million for a democratic candidate to fund a competitive campaign. Mike McCaul is a two term incumbent who if needed can spend two to three times that amount. So money matters because it is necessary to fund a viable campaign to get a Democrat elected to TX-10.

Larry Joe Doherty has a viable campaign that will be competitive in November. His campaign's fourth quarter fundraising numbers were more than the second and third quarters combined showing the momentum growing in Larry Joe Doherty's campaign. Until Dan Grant’s campaign releases their 4th quarter numbers, the jury is still out on the viability of his campaign

How Much Money did Larry Loan himself? (0.00 / 0)
With only $20,000 difference between the two in the 3rd quarter, and no basis for comparison for the 4th quarter (campaigns aren't required to report that until January 31), I don't see how you can draw any conclusion to compare the "viability" of anyone's campaign.

Both of the candidates have already proven they have viable campaigns, more so than any of the past Democratic candidates and on par with McCaul.

I left personal loans out (0.00 / 0)
I wanted the focus of the post to be fundraising so I left out personal loans.  Larry Joe Doherty's and Dan Grant's numbers are strictly fund raising.

I believe the reports are due on Jan. 15 (0.00 / 0)
So, assuming they file electronically -- or releases the numbers that day -- we should know by Tuesday what everyone running for Congress has raised in Q4.

Actually, January 31 (3.00 / 1)
The FEC rules for end-of-year reports are a little different.

Full Disclosure: Former Political Director for Lee Leffingwell for Mayor of Austin, and now nonpartisan Executive Director of LWV-TX

Dan Grant: what did you raise in the 4th quarter?

How much cash do you have on hand?
