Cornyn's Approval Rating in the Gutter

I can't believe this guy...

Instead of addressing our supply problems by opening up valuable resources to drilling and refining, the Democrats would like to enact laws against price gouging, a phenomenon of which the Federal Trade Commission could find no evidence.

I like how they ignore "no evidence" for the Voter IDiocy bill, yet proclaim it for price gouging.  I could be wrong, but isn't the FTC a republican-controlled institution these days?  Were they really looking for the evidence when they couldn't find it?  Sort of like W. looking for WMDs in that "funny" video.

But proposed amendments have narrowed our national focus to select energy sources, hand-picked by Democrats. For example, instead of encouraging the use of all clean energy, one leading Democratic amendment mandates the use of specific energy sources such as wind, while discouraging the use of powerful and clean sources like nuclear and clean coal plants.

Um, so far as I know, wind doesn't create waste.  Nukes and Coal, even the "clean" variety, do. 

We have to get rid of this guy...really.

Yes, like any government org, the FTC has both career folks and political hacks.  However, former Dem CA AG Bill Lockyer and the CA Energy Commission couldn't find anything on price gouging either (report here).  That was 2000 though. The new CA AG is Jerry Brown (yes, that Jerry Brown), and he still lists it on his anti-trust activities page.  Before I pass judgement, I'll wait to see what Jerry Brown says.  But, if Jerry Brown says there is no collusion, then I'll believe him.

Cornyn's problem is that he doesn't really stand for anything -- except that which he thinks will get him elected. He cast his lot with Bush, and now he is getting pulled down by Bush's numbers.

He is incapable of an original thought. So when he doesn't receive the talking points and he is left to his own devices he introduces cream puff legislation like this:

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, has proposed a crackdown on the sale of ''murderabilia,'' the artifacts of murderers. His legislation would prohibit inmates from mailing anything for purposes of interstate commerce. Violations could be punished by sentences of three to 10 years.

We have kids dying in Iraq, Afghanistan is backsliding, millions of people don't have health coverage, global warming, oil prices, New Orleans still in shambles, Texas is in last place in virtually every social service, etc. etc. and this is what Box Turtle is spending his time doing.

Unfortunately, this State is so damn Red, unless we get a strong candidate with statewide name ID, he will probably slide by.

I am pleased to report that Texas is known for having one of the strongest set of open government laws in our Nation. And ever since that experience, I have long believed that our federal government could use 'a little Texas sunshine.'
