Mikal Watts to Announce Exploratory Bid Friday for TX-Sen

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Wed May 30, 2007 at 05:51 PM CDT

Tacked on to the end of the Statesman story yesterday about Lampson running for re-election in TX-22 was this interesting tidbit in regards to the Texas Senate race. Looks like we might have our 2nd candidate to run against John Cornyn (let's not forget Emil Reichstadt).

Lampson surfaced as a Senate prospect this spring after appearing at a San Antonio fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The gathering, which raised $1.1 million, took place in Watts' home.

Watts, a plaintiffs' lawyer, said Monday that he'll start an exploratory committee Friday, meaning that he'll be poised to raise money that could be spent on a campaign.

"There's a high level of interest in changing the course of this country," Watts said.

You may remember we reported on Mikal Watts's $1.1 Million record-breaking fundraisiner which Glen Maxey and I attended in April (and where one of us accidently fell into a water fountain while Sen. Chuck Schumer was speaking- not saying who). The Texas Blue has a good roundup of his background.

I unequivocally deny "falling into a fountain".  I was merely testing the waters.

HAHAHAHAHA (0.00 / 0)
OMG, I burst out laughing.

I guess we shouldn't mention all the other rediculous things that happened on that trip. Like stealing that coathanger and my turning into McGuyver to save our lives.

Gracias! (0.00 / 0)
There needs to be a more positive story/Web site coming up first in google.

Mikal and Emil (5.00 / 1)
Well the Democrats win for most original names so far :)

I met Emil Reichstadt at the meeting with Terry McAuliffe and I would not have known he was a candidate had he not mentioned it. The only thing that strikes me about him is that he stands at least 6'8". And I am guessing on that because he dwarfed me and I am 6'2". So if anything, he could probably take Cornyn out in a cage fight.

Oh, my (0.00 / 0)
I need to know how to pronounce his name, too. Emil like as in EEMILL or Emil as in MMILL? I like it that he's so tall. :-) How tall is Cornyn? And Emil has a much better Google search. BOR comes up right ahead of him. Need that for Mikal Watts, too. :-)

Mr. Watts does not Google search well.

Hey Cornyn! (5.00 / 1)
Watts Up?

Watts going to kick your ass.

This could be fun.

First Impression... (0.00 / 0)
I have yet to study the guy, nor do I know him, but at first blush I'm pretty impressed.  He is certainly someone we should all take very seriously, if nothing else.

Shhhh! (0.00 / 0)
Karl-Thomas,
What happens in The Dominion is supposed to stay in the Dominion.
If Glen did step into the fountain, and I am not saying he did, it was only to stop someone nearby from falling.

Hey, no one is saying he did (0.00 / 0)
I'm positive it was the fault of someone standing nearby. If only they would have been able to put their own drink down, there would have been no 'testing of the waters' shall we say.

They were his favorite he said. Told his staff to take the rest on the tray home with them.
