Via Quorum Report, we learn that Democrat Craig Eiland met with Speaker candidates Jim Pitts and Brian McCall. Coming out of that meeting, he released the following press release, stating that Craddick can't win:GALVESTON, TX- State Representative Craig Eiland had lunch today in Dallas with Chairman Jim Pitts (R-Waxahachie) and Representative Brian McCall(R-Plano). "It is clear that based on the support that they have, Mr. Craddick is way short of being even close to the seventy-five votes he needs to remain as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Therefore, it is apparent that the House will have a new Speaker." Rep. Eiland says, "I believe that it will be Mr. McCall because he has the support necessary to win. However, Mr. McCall feels an inclusive House, controlled by the Republicans, where every member has a voice, requires that he continue to work to increase his margin before going public with members names." Pitts and McCall are talking together, which seems to show unity against Craddick. More and more, it seems the biggest question of the Speaker's race isn't if Craddick will lose, but by how much. |
