| I have to be up in 3 hours to help run the University Democrats "War Room" today where I'll be stations for the duration of Election Day, seeing as my role as Tech Director for the Travis County Coordinated Campaign won't require me to be in any one place really.
For the first time in recent history there is an Election Day strategy to turning out student voters. Typically, 75-80% of the student vote is cast early and that is where all the focus is. This year, we are hoping to a couple thousand extra student votes on E-Day. By close of the polls, students will have received a combination of mail, e-mails by precinct of where to vote on E-Day, text messages by precinct of where to vote, an automated call in key boxes by precinct as well as student wide, literature to everyone living on campus that hasn't voted yet, and a live call from the "War Room" reminding them to when and where to vote.
It is the largest coordinated student effort I've seen at UT, something that is also happening at Texas State by the Dems down there. The text message idea apparently has been picked up and will be in use to some degree at Texas State and Rice University.
I'll try to update from campus about the goings ons through the day. But at 7, I'm headed over to the Stephen F Austin Victory Party which will be home to both the "In the Pinks" bloggers party and the True Blue Travis coordinated campaign (though I hear others have suites there and folks like Hank Gilbert will be joining us). |
