Republican State Rep's Chief of Staff Tony McDonald Demonstrates History of Racism and Homophobia

State Rep. Jonathan Stickland

Stickland's Chief of Staff Tony McDonald

Rep. Jonathan Stickland is a new Republican state representative from north Texas. One of his first decisions after getting elected was to hire University of Texas graduate Tony McDonald.

McDonald's name may sound familiar to regular BOR readers, especially those who were on the 40 Acres in the latter half of the last decade.

Through his years of statements and actions, Tony McDonald has promoted the worst kind of racist and homophobic viewpoints. Does such a person have any business working in the Texas Capitol?

Find out more below the jump.

    McDonald's Statements

On his blog during the 2008 election, McDonald called for literacy tests while perpetuating the insidious racist stereotype of black Americans as unintelligent thugs:

Where are literacy tests when we need them? Seriously -- I don't think it is a virtue to take the serially uninformed to the polls just so they'll cast a vote for your demagogue candidate.

There are few views more racist than that. As Tony himself emphasized, he fully believes in limiting the right to vote with literacy tests - exactly as they did in the Jim Crow South.

On November 6, 2008, Tony wrote in a blog post entitled "Sodomites Expose Themselves" that:

"Homosexuals" love to compalin about how they are an opressed group, who just wants peace and tolerance, and love, and ranbows ... The reality is that they have a sickness, and that it corrupts their moral beings. This manifests its self not only in their horribly self-destructive tendencies, but certainly carries out into their view of others as well. The worst thing we can do for them, if we care at all about their well-being or the well being of our society is to encourage their destructive, depraved, and deadly behavior. By doing so we only encourage them to destroy themselves, and to continue on trying to destroy the society around them.

That's right: Tony McDonald wrote that gay people "have a sickness" whose behavior is "depraved" and "deadly". This view's own depravity is self-evident.

    McDonald's Actions

While at the University of Texas, McDonald's behavior offended many on campus. As president of Young Conservatives of Texas, McDonald hosted, organized and promoted an "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" in which he charged white people more money for pastries. Here's a picture of McDonald at the event:

McDonald spearheaded a Young Conservatives of Texas effort to convince Republicans in the Texas House to pass a budget amendment requiring universities funding campus LGBT groups to also fund anti-LGBT groups, which they did. "Traditional family values, nuclear families are what is normal and what is right. Homosexuality is outside what is normal and what is right," McDonald told the American Independent when asked about his efforts for the bill.

McDonald also organized an "ACLU Nativity Scene" which features prominent Democrats among Marx, Lenin and Stalin, a 'suicide bomber' shepherd, and Gary and Joseph instead of Mary and Joseph. Apparently that's how McDonald wants to treat organizations that defend the constitutional liberties of all Americans. Ironically, this comes from a person who regularly accuses people of being un-American. Here's Tony with that display:

Tony McDonald displays a disgusting history of promoting bigoted viewpoints that speak to the lowest common denominator of humanity. His position of influence in our Capitol is a disgrace to our state.

If thats the case, its no wonder your party is in shambles nationwide. With this attitude it won't be long before the same is true in Texas....

This is nothing new (5.00 / 1)
I went to high school with Rep. Stickland. Don't remember much about him. I heard from a couple of alums that he dropped out.

Anyways, here is an insight into Mr. Stickland's thinking.

"Maybe those who cannot afford to rebuild after the damage or those not smart enough to take out insurance to protect there investments shouldn't have decided to live by the coast. Who the hell moves to the coast and doesn't consider the chance of a hurricane wiping out everything they own/have built? Idiots."

- Jonathan Stickland, 25 August 2011, on why we shouldn't provide disaster relief to storm victims
