| In their first appearance on Face the Nation the Castro brothers discussed everything from fostering economic competitiveness to fostering bipartisanship in Washington.
They also discussed the strengthening economy, and the need to maintain a strong economy through an educated workforce, because in San Antonio, "brainpower is the currency of success."
After all the talk of economic strength Schieffer pointed out that they are both Democrats living in a very Republican state. The conversation inevitably led to the future of Texas and the Republican party stronghold therein.
"In a couple of presidential cycles you'll be, on election night, you'll be announcing that we're calling the 38 electoral votes of Texas for the Democratic nominee for President" - Mayor Julian Castro
The Mayor noted this is partially because the Republican Party here in Texas is quickly losing the business community and in turn the moderates within their party.
Congressman Castro was quick to chime in that turning the state blue cannot happen on its own, and that it will take serious investment and infrastructure within the party to do so.
