Rep. Quico Canseco's Speech at the RNC Broken Down

by: Ben Sherman

Wed Aug 29, 2012 at 01:29 PM CDT

Texas Republican Rep. Quico Canseco is in a fight for his political life against Pete Gallego in San Antonio's 23rd district. Republicans, desperate to hide the fact that they barely have any support from Hispanics, let Canseco speak at their convention yesterday.

Here's what he said alongside what he meant.

What Canseco Said
What Canseco Means
"We owe our children a better future. We owe them a future without high unemployment, higher taxes and a crushing burden of debt."Without higher taxes on the rich who pay me, I mean. No matter what happens to our children without that revenue, we all owe Quico Canseco another term in office.
"Unfortunately, Barack Obama is burdening us with destructive debt, punishing taxes, and robbing us of that opportunity to succeed."Forget about George W. Bush crashing the economy, forget that President Obama (who I won't call President) has cut taxes across the board, and bear with me when I say that the first black President of the United States is "robbing us" of our right to succeed.
"Un gobierno limitado y menos impuestos significan más oportunidad y mejores empleos para un futuro más próspero para las siguientes generaciones. Con Mitt Romney como Presidente - lo podemos hacer mejor."I'm speaking in Spanish so my party doesn't actually promote deeply anti-Latino policies like mass deportation, fight against the Dream Act or demonize undocumented immigrants!!!
"Lower taxes and less government means more opportunity and better job creation for a brighter future for generations to come. "As long as you don't know that I'm talking about lower taxes for the rich (which cripple our country) and less teachers, policemen, health care, etc. - this sentence will sound great to you.

How do we know he means this? Since getting into office, Rep. Canseco has done nothing but push for corporate welfare, try to deny help for rape victims with Todd Akin and Paul Ryan, making guns even more available, and vote against the health of our planet. Canseco represents a district he should never have been elected in, and he snuck in because of Democratic fatigue in 2010. The man is a gutter politician who needs to be sent home this November.
