Austin Chronicle Changes From No Endorsement in Constable 2 Runoff to Adan Ballesteros

by: Katherine Haenschen

Thu Jul 26, 2012 at 03:30 PM CDT

The Austin Chronicle announced today that they are changing their endorsement in the Constable 2 runoff, from "no endorsement" to supporting incumbent Adan Ballesteros.

They write:

It is only in rare circumstances that we change our opinion about the candidates in a race. In the first round of the primary, we endorsed Paul LaBuda. After he failed to make the run-off, we decided not to endorse either of the other candidates. Now, with the rhetoric of the run-off escalating, we have reversed that position.

County constable is an administrative position, and therefore we use different criteria than we would in an legislative race; we look for someone who will be able to run the office capably as well as someone who can provide leadership that reflects this community's values. Cargill's refusal to distance himself from the appalling and potentially libelous accusations being thrown by his supporters at Ballesteros, as well as his utter lack of experience, discredits him in our eyes. In that light, we urge our readers to vote for Ballesteros.

The Chronicle makes no mention of Cargill's extreme position on guns, something Burnt Orange Report first brought to light in a guest post from John Woods, a Virginia Tech survivor and organizer of Students for Gun-Free Schools Texas. Cargill lobbied for guns on campus on behalf of the NRA, and supports repealing federal gun-free school zones and background checks.

Democratic primary voters should be aware of Cargill's extreme position on guns, which is not only to the right of most Democrats, but to the right of moderate Republicans as well.

How can TAG claim to be for ACCOUNTABLE government and not condemn the actions of Cargill.  If not criminal (Which I hope he gets charged and loses his CHL), it is unethical and not what a candidate for office should be doing.
Shame on TAG!  Cargill + TAG= Dirty campaign and voter turnoff.  TAG + Cargill = Irrelevance for TAG.  Any people that took them serious as an advocate for the way things are supposed to be, know what cargill did was wrong and they should come out and say they dont support what he did.  Instead they pay people (bums from what I saw at the polls) to hand out flyers.

Agree (0.00 / 0)
I agree with ookla.  Texans for Accountable Government, when watching their YouTube videos, seem to be close in philosophy to the Sovereign Citizens, a dangerous group.  TAG is anti-cop and anti-government, but is supporting a guy who wants to be a cop.  Why do they believe everything Cargill is feeding them?  Why do they put their money on Cargill?  Is it to totally abolish the Constable office?  I don't believe anything that has come from the mouth of Cargill.

AG: Ballesteros' improper use of Authority of a Constable (0.00 / 0)

BOR, you have not covered the recent Texas Atty General's decision on Ballesteros' Office improper use of Authority of a constable with regard to payment of outstanding warrants issued by a justice court (RQ-1024-GA)

Irresponsible Supervision on the part of Adan Ballesteros (0.00 / 0)
The following is an example of irresponsibility on the part of Adan Ballesteros' office, not providing masks for his deputies under those circumstances:

"Aigner, 38, had been at Steiner Ranch several times to guard against looting and was there again Saturday to aid returning families when he collapsed, said Linda Bertram, a spokeswoman for Precinct 2 Constable Adan Ballesteros. Aigner and the other deputies did not have breathing equipment or masks, she said."

gotta be cargill or one of his guys. (0.00 / 0)
Toby has better sense than that. He was almost killed in the line of duty, do tou think anyone hold Hamilton responsible. This is too low class for toby, gotta be cargill. Do you think brininging up an officers death is somehow going to sway votes your way. Nope just makes people disgusted with you.
When this is over TAG can go back to watching for drones and chemtrails and cargill can go back to his hole in the back of his gun shop, which he may no longer be able to work at once he is convicted of theft. They can all hold hands and drink the florinated cool aide!

Officer! No Officer at ALL (0.00 / 0)
Officer You showed how you talk out of you rear. A low class ACT! A low class posting. Lower than a snakes belly!

Next time mention how Cargill wants to sell guns to children and create a government of sovern citizens. How Cargill is a THIEF. And how cargill trains people not for self defense but for the Zombie Apocolypes. How Cargill thinks the illuminati is trying to take his rights. And most of all Why? Cargill is being funded by the tea part.  And Cargill wants to be a cop, but is ANTI-LAW ENFORCEMENT!

whoa- crossing a line. (0.00 / 0)
Thats low class, somehow infering that Ballesteros is responsible for his deputies death. Low class, even for a Cargill supporter. The officer died from an issue unrelated to any safety equipment. SHAME ON YOU. DISGUSTING!

Cargill is disrespectfull! (0.00 / 0)
How dare you disrespect Kevin Aigner! You posting that crap is an insult to his family. I hope the people are seeing how crazy this guy is. TAG, Toby Miller and Bass put this Cargill guy up. The republican coward judge and his cronies can not beat Ballesteros. Just remember B-ass your election is next.

Cargill you coward, You attack Ballesteros staff, deputies and now fallen officers. Obviously you have NO class!

No license!
No degree!
No ethics!
No experience!
No right!

And your a THIEF!!!  YOU got caught!! great job catching this thief. He was arrested for HOT CHECK, and theft of service! Once a Thief always a Thief!

To TAG, Cargill, and his little followers: (0.00 / 0)
You have been extremely disrespectful to Kevin Aigner and his family up until this point, so why start defending him now? (IE: threatening to call the cops on his children, etc.)

Deputy Aigner died due to natural causes, and you so desperate to make Constable Ballesteros look bad that you will lower yourselves to this degree?  I agree... You should be ashamed of your actions.

Constable Ballesteros gives his heart and soul to his job and his community and you want to give his position to a man (or mouse) who believes that safely comes down to every man or woman pulling out their gun and shooting back?  (bought at his business, no doubt).  Is this what a Constable does, or just how Cargill sees it?

And keep in mind... (0.00 / 0)
that these kids on campus were just given the right to legally drink a beer.  Now you're going to give them the right to carry deadly weapons? That will add a little more fun to a frat party! There has to be a better way to make the campus a more secure one. Don't just give them the tools for an all out gun fight!
