Rick Perry's Cover-Up and Corruption: A Ten Part Series

by: Phillip Martin

Sun Oct 31, 2010 at 09:00 PM CDT

(If Governor Perry really wants to run on the national stage, he's also going to have to think about how to answer for a lot of things, including all of this. - promoted by Phillip Martin)

Rick Perry is a corrupt career politician who will say and do anything to get elected. He is, without question, in it for himself. The ten-part series below focuses on some of the worst examples of his cover-ups and corruption.

If you have more to add, please leave them in the comments below. You can also see the full list of these articles here: Rick Perry's Cover-Up and Corruption:

keep throwing more #*$% against the wall (1.00 / 2)
its not sticking.

Here's my question (0.00 / 0)
Which one of these ten things outlined above do you condone?

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

Condone? (1.00 / 1)
I don't think anybody on this page is condoning those things.  But truth be told, for the rest of Texas, none of this really matters.

Irrelvant (3.00 / 1)
I fail to see what one has to do with another.

I also don't understand why people think scandals don't matter unless "the rest of Texas" cares. I think that's crap. A crime is a crime, even if nobody knows it's been committed.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

What I meant to say... (0.00 / 0)
Is that despite these "scandals", Perry will win.  So for the a majority of voters, it does not matter.  You do not have to understand it or like it.  It is what it is.

Was a crime committed?

Appears like it... (0.00 / 0)
We're going to have to wait for the full investigation into the TRS scandal, which will happen.

A note... (3.00 / 1)
I didn't document these instances of Perry's cover-ups and corruption with any thinking that it would sway voters, or even motivate Democrats to vote. Persuasion, unless it involves conversations within a Democratic primary or Democratic caucus, is rarely the point of BOR. For this series, I simply thought it would be useful/important to highlight exactly how much nonsense Perry has pulled in recent years -- if, for no other reason, that I believe elected officials should be held accountable by their actions, and it's important to document what they do with their time in office.

Question (1.00 / 1)
will someone discuss Bill White's corruption/poor stewardship of the COH

1) using eminent domain to take a 50 x 75 ft lot and give that land to a developer (Ed Wulfe) who is a large donor to your campaigns

2) Ignoring the law and pulling a developer's permit (Ashby High Rise) because your donors- Scott Atlas, Lt Gov Hobby, Matt Simmons and others live in that neighborhood and are a bunch of NIMBYs

3) increasing the COH budget by 40% in 6 yrs, specifically the police budget by 43% yet only added maybe 100 new offices

Sure (0.00 / 0)
1. See here: http://www.statesman.com/news/...

2. Have no idea what you're talking about, unless it is the same as above...

3. You assume increasing a budget is bad, which it isn't. And if that is your modus operandi, Perry has doubled state spending while Governor. Meanwhile, the DMN reported that, "There were 27 cadet classes, adding a total of 1,151 officers, in White's six years, double what is planned through 2014" -- while the crime rate dropped 7%.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

re: sure (0.00 / 0)
1) yes I know the AAS wrote about helping Ed Wulfe- all I am saying is that I see little different between Whites dealing for friends and what Perry has done

2) Ashby High Rise- google it, the COH is now being sued and more likely what White did will cost the city $10mm in damages and attorney fees.  A developer was going to build something (remember Houston has no zoning) got his permit then the neighbors (all major donors) had White pull the permit with zero legal basis.  Now the city is being sued and White will have to testify

3) I agree increasing a budget is fine, but how is a 43% increase in police funding yet only 2% increase in number of police wise spending?  Regarding your 27 cadet classes you are not taking into account retired officers.  Go look at the HPOPS (you might have to google what HPOPS is) annual report to see number of active duty officers in the 6 yrs

So after White loses tomorrow is his career done or will he fight it out with Sharp in 2012

Look (0.00 / 0)
If you think a kerfuffle about a 50x75 foot lot and Perry siphoning millions of dollars in teacher retirement money to his friend, covering up a sex abuse scandal, etc. are one in the same, there's really no point in having this conversation any further. Nobody is pretending White has never made a mistake in his life, but anyone who sees those as equivalence is wearing some pretty large partisan blinders.

And coming from me, that's saying something.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

really (0.00 / 0)
It was a 50x75 lot in middle of a real estate development that is worth a lot more than the TRS dollar amount.  I voted for Kathie Glass, but White has run the worst campaign known to man.  The Democrats in Texas need to get some of their tenured state reps and senators to take a stand and run for something statewide.  If the Dems continue to nominate someone who did not graduate high school and is a union leader (since last I checked Texas is not really a big union state) for Lt. Governor they will have no chance for something statewide

I want the Dems to be viable statewide but when they continue to put zeros on the ballot they just don't get it.

Deja Vu (1.00 / 1)
So after White loses tomorrow is his career done or will he fight it out with Sharp in 2012

He'll probably follow the precedence of the previous candidate and file a lawsuit for damages claiming conspiracy. Some are already placing bets on who he will sue. The Republican Party. The Green Party.  Annise Parker. Maybe all three.

Once again we have a Democratic candidate for governor screaming about ethics who cannot even spell the word.

Once again we have been told to send all the money to the candidate for governor who will carry the rest of the ballot.

Once again we have seen everyone in the state know who the candidate for governor is but no one else because no one else had any money to run a campaign with.

Once again the Texas Democratic Party has proven it simply does not know what it is doing.

Thanks for posting this (3.00 / 1)
Texas Republicans might not care how corrupted Rick Perry is just b/c he has a R behind his name.  But since our esteemed governor apparently has bigger fish to fry later given the rumors about a run for the 2012 Presidency, other Americans will be very interested in knowing the real Rick Perry.  One W. was one W. too many.  Perry is even worse if that is possible.

Folks will be very wary of any Republican politicians coming out of this state after W. ginned up an unnecessary war that has sold our financial souls to China and gave tax cuts to the wealthy at the same time.  So much for conservative fiscal responsibility.

Earth to the American people.  Never, ever in a day trust a Texas Republican. All will rob you blind in a New York nano second. And after they do it the spineless masters of greed will blame it on Democrats.

There have been other lists of Perry's "misdeeds" (3.00 / 1)
but this may be as complete and backed up with citations as any I've seen.  For "mis-deeds", read "corruption".

Let's just hold on to this list, since we may need it later.  Note that DeLay's crimes have taken 4 or 5 years to come to trial.  Perry's could take at least that long.  Assuming he stays for his full 4-year term...

sigh

We'd better make them aware (3.00 / 1)
of the Todd Willingham situation too.  You remember,  the innocent man who was railroaded to a guilty charge b/c of voodoo science and ginned up evidence.  Mr. Willingham was executed on Rick Perry's watch.  Later when the Forensics Science Commission was about to reveal its finding on the validity of the science Perry got scared and fired the Chair.  He appointed one of his dearest and closes cronies to take over and shut down any public investigations.

American voters should know about Perry's dictatorial streak and his absolute lack of human compassion.

Perry lied about the budget deficit (4.00 / 2)
During his campaign Rick Perry said the deficit was speculative.

Remember?

Run, Rick, Run

Federal Government Loathing Perry (4.00 / 2)
loves small government so much that he had to beg the Feds to help us out with the out of control fires here.  Apparently Texas is too busted to do the job.

That or his fat cat donor buddies in big insurance don't want to pick up the tab for the lost homes and lives.

Shame on Rick Perry.
