I'm sure Ducky PJs will run in CD-34 (I think he may actually live in CD-34) (0.00 / 0)
The real question is whether Todd Hunter will also run in CD-34 (his statehouse district was drawn in a way that he is now paired off with Victoria's R-incumbent Geanie Morrison in a district that looks an awful lot like CD-34).

If I had a choice of running against Ducky PJs or Morrison in a primary, I'd rather run against the Duck, but I'm sure Hunter is looking more at whether he wants to remain a big fish in the small statehouse pond or to become a small fish in DC.

These new maps look like what the Voting Rights Act intended.  I'm so glad to see it!  I'm also glad that the minority-opportunity district in Bexar County does not intrude so invasive into Travis County to pit a minority-opportunity candidate from Bexar County against an incumbent from Travis County.  I can't wait to see who runs in CD-35 now that the blatant gerrymandering of that district has been fixed.

CD-34 (0.00 / 0)
Even if Ducky PJ's does run in the 34th, I agree with the Twitterati that he will get some primary opponent for that district. It's too Republican and too big to expect a one-term fluke Congressman to get it.

Arguably he got super lucky in 2010 in the 27th when Ortiz' machine didn't get the job done. The 27th was a 74% Hispanic district before. I'd still like to see Nueces County rebuild their operation and get it together.

Will be curious to see who declares and files for both the 27th and the 34th in the next three weeks.

I'm not a player, I just Tweet a lot: @KathTX

The Duck has confirmed that he's focused on CD-34, and CD-27 (0.00 / 0)
will have Rose Harrison as a Democratic candidate.  There has been talk of Solomon Ortiz (or his son) running to retake his old seat but I think Ortiz will sit this one out because the district favors a candidate from Brownsville now that Nueces County has been split (and his son seems a better fit for statehouse district 33, which he is interested in; it only appears to be Solomon Ortiz Sr. who is interested in Solly Jr. running for congress).
