The complete loony rank and file won't go for him...you are correct.
But the Christian right has a spectrum of voters.. I know many Hagee followers who are completely over the top freaks and just as many who would say to themselves...
"This Romney guy...he's no Bush ...but he's got strong religious principles and I can get behind that "

I'm not sure they WANT to appear tolerant.. but would be backed into a corner of having to be tolerant.

Think of all the televangelists who had a total field day when Al Sharpton made a remark against Romney..

What was their basic reponse?:
"Who is being intolerant now!!"

It would all be a numbers game....  Just how many of a "moderate" Christian right wing could Romney get out vs how many would stay home for Rudy?
