Strayhorn Claims To Have $8.1 Million In Campaign Warchest
By Vince Leibowitz
Though official reports aren't due before the Texas Ethics Commission until Tuesday, Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn announced late last week that she has $8.1 million in her warchest to take on Rick Perry and the eventual winner of the Democratic Primary.
She lags behind Perry who, according to the Houston Chronicle, has $11.5 million in his campaign account.
Strayhorn reportedly raised 2.4 million between July 1 and December 31 of last year, while Perry's camp claims he raised $4.6 million during the same period.
Given that the Republicans (and Republican/Independent) are bragging about how much cash they have on hand, I thought it'd be a good idea to remind everyone that they can (and should) donate to the campaign of the Democratic candidate for Governor of their choice. Here are the links (in alphabetical order):
Felix Alvarado
Chris Bell
Bob Gammage

Her campaign finance reports should be the most interesting to go through. Mainly to see which Democrats have supported her campaign without waiting to see who the Democratic candidate would be.
One need not wait. every dollar in her pocket is out of the Democrats bank account. Her efforts will dry up dough and more importantly attention.
A five way race is an incumbants best wish.
It would seem to be destined to work in Perry's favor since the rest of the votes will be divided three ways. In the end, a few Republicans will vote for Strayhorn, a few Republicans might vote for Kinky but most Republicans would never vote for a Democrat. Simple math would indicate Perry has it sewn up unless the Democrats can manage to get more voters registered and to the polls. Something that hasn't happened yet and probably won't although from what I've heard, a number of minority leaders are beginning to take an interest in Gammage and so who knows. He could turn out to be the wild card in the deck. And not only win the primary but the election in November.
And it will be a four-way race. IF Kinky and Strayhorn manage to get on the ballot. Most likely both parties will pull every legal shenanigan in the book to keep them off it although to be honest it probably is in the best interest of the Republicans to make sure they're both on it. Because it will only dilute the Democratic base. Not theirs.
I can't wait until Strayhorn starts polling behind the Kinkster, and Bell/Gammage wins the 4th most votes on Election Day. What a state.
