Ronnie Earle Fights Back

By Damon McCullar

Remember those "Ronnie Earle is a partisian attack dog" ads? Well, according to Drudge Report, Earle as suboneaed two officals at the Free Enterprise Fund.

From Drudge:

Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle has subpoenaed two officials at the Free Enterprise Fund in connection with ads the conservative group has run criticizing him for his indictment of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.). The ads attacked Earle, who has a history of indicting his political enemies in both parties, comparing him to an attack dog.

The draft subpoena served to the organization demands that FEF communications director Todd Schorle and executive director O'Brien Murray testify in Texas at DeLay's change of venue hearing on Dec. 27 -- the Tuesday after Christmas.

In the subpoena, Earle also demands "any and all documentation regarding the advertisements that have been produced or paid for by the Free Enterprise Fund.

Well, I'm glad Mr. Earle is doing what he was elected to do--fight political battles. Bravo!

I agree with Mr. Earle. I don't think people should have the right to say things about him that he doesn't like, and if they do then he should prosecute them whether it is a crime or not.

snrub,

He is not seeking to prosecute him. This is entirely proper. Delay wants the case out of Travis because of media coverage (the basis of claiming you cannot have a fair trial in that county). However, Delay has created much of that media coverage through ads. Earl is simply trying to show the Defense is largely responsible for the media circus and therefore should not gain from it.

by the way, the "him" in the 1st sentence in my previous post refers to the recipient of the subpoena (obviously he is prosecuting Delay) - in case that was ambiguous

I think there was a little media before the defense started given that Delay is the Majority Leader. But I don't think it is inappropriate that he is asking them to testify, just being a smart ass.

Ronnie, you can retire now and avoid looking like a partisan fool when Deguerrin hands you your ass in January. Additionally, no one is questioning what sudden motivation Earle needed to pursue this case so agressively, scratch the surface and find Tobacco Five Lawyers, The Statesman, Chris Bell, etc. etc.

I had the greatest respect for Ronnie Earle until he claimed that Bob Bullock "admitted" he was guilty. Long after Bob Bullock had died.

Dead men tell no tales. They also can't defend themselves. Why the living should have respect for the dead. And not speak ill of them. Or claim things they cannot deny.

That was the point Ronnie Earle joined Tom De Lay as one of the lowest of the lowest.
