HD 48 Update
By Damon McCullar
Andy Brown petitioned a week or so ago to run in the HD 48 special election even though he did not meet the one-year residency requirement.
Via QR:
Democratic candidate for House District 48 Andy Brown responded to the Secretary of State’s denial of a place on the special election ballot with a federal lawsuit challenging the residency requirement in a special election.
Brown moved to the district in May to meet the one-year residency requirement for the November general election. Abruptly, state Rep. Todd Baxter (R-Austin) resigned, effective Nov. 1. Unsuccessful GOP Senate candidate Ben Bentzin’s name quickly circulated as the likely Republican candidate. Gov. Rick Perry called for a special election on Jan. 17.
Stay tuned for further developments.

all this effort just makes him look desperate, I don't think this is good at all for his campaign.
Andy Brown's 15 minutes are up. He is out of the special and irrelevant to the primary, and his desperate efforts to survive (and keep his donors from stringing him up) are destroying his future viability.
If you think Andy is down or out because of Rick Perry's silly electoral games, then you have a little to learn. I'll teach:
1. Whose name, of all of those in the 48th, is in the news and on the blogs every day? Recognition is 90% of the game.
2. Who wants to be state rep the most out of our candidates in the 48th? Well, as a constituent, I sure take notice of the one filing a federal lawsuit to get on the ballot after being denied a place on the ballot due to a technicality that has been waved in past special elections.
3. Who has been walking blocks since July while his opponents can not even raise the money they need to get their campaign noticed beyond Democratic-organization meetings?
I could go on and on, but i am getting bored. Andy being out of the race is just wishful thinking on the part of campaigns who can't get their campaigns together.
This lesson was free; future classes with cost my normal consulting fee...:}
A technicality???? The Texas Constitution sets in the one year residency requirement. That's not a technicality.
Andy is out of the race - the special election anyway. No Federal judge is going to overturn the state constitution.
And let's face it, if you're not running in the special, you're SOL.
SmarterThan You is really AsDumbAsTheySound.
Belligerance and being wrong are not a winning agenda for Andy Brown. Seth is right, his 15 minutes are up. If being in the news as a clueless political hack is his best strategy, I'm afraid it's not good enough. The voters of the district understand that he is an immature young man who moved there yesterday for purely politcal reasons and has no more business representing them at the capitol than Todd Baxter did.
The judge just ruled against the litigious Mr. Brown. Said he's ineligible to run in the special and should have his law license revoked.
Hey "D"-
Funny. Were you in the room? I was.
The judge actually didn't say that his law license should be revoked. As a matter of fact, he called him "bright" and "knowledgeable."
Y'all are funny.
