BORed - Election Day Contest

By Matt Hardigree

Today is a serious day and, hopefully, a day for celebration. In order to make the time pass a little quicker (does election day seem like 300 hours to anyone else?), we're going to be having a little contest.

Try to guess how Prop 1 and 2 are going to do. As a tiebreaker, guess how well Mayor White is going to do in Houston (the smart money says better than 92%). The closest one wins a prize. In the case of a tie, we go to the tie breaker. In the case of another tie the first one gets it. As simple as that. Leave your guess in the comment like such:

Prop 1: +10 (if you think it is going to get 60% of the vote)
Prop 2: - 10 (if you think it is going to fail and get 40% of the vote)
Tie: 90% (if you think he's going to get 90% of the vote)

Here's my guess:

Prop 1: +12
Prop 2: + 2
Tie: 95%

-----------
Your Turn.

----------
Update 1 - Polls Close at 7:00 pm, but the contest ends at 6:00 pm. Everyone is eligable, especially people who post on this site (seriously, these people need dates). If you don't know about Houston, shame on you.

----------
Update 2 - Prop 5 is not part of the contest, but guess if you want too. Please put your real email address or you can't be notified if you have won. The prize is a mystery, but let's just say that it is going to be more than $10.00 but less than $200.00.

----------
Update 3 - Travis County returns will be available here tonight, as well as precint by precinct reports.

I am think
Prop 1 gets 48%
Prop 2 gets 46%
White gets 96.4%

I think we would be able to win Prop 2 if more people would make some calls at onlinephonebanking.com or contact their friends/family/coworkers

Prop 1 +10
Prop 2 -5
Tie 95% (I'm just guessing...I have no idea about Houston city politics.)

This plus/minus thing confuses me, so I'm just going to say what vote they'll get.

Prop 1: 58%
Prop 2: 67%
White: 94%

Posted by: Andrew Dobbs at November 8, 2005 11:37 AM

I realized I posted what percentage I thought would vote "no" on Prop 2, as opposed to what percentage I thought it would pass by. So there's no confusion, and so I get that white elephant Matt promised:

Prop 2

53% -- yes
47% -- no

I still stand by my K-T numbers, though. :)

Yeah, but White Settlement was named for the guy who founded it. His last name was White. I understand it sounds kinda scary, but is that really something to change a name over?

Posted by: Andrew Dobbs at November 8, 2005 02:04 PM

Prop 1: +9 (59%)
Prop 2: -1 (49%) (well, I can't root for it to pass, and to me, passing predictions just make people stay home, so yeah)
White: 89%

Posted by: Max Starkenburg at November 8, 2005 02:12 PM

Actually, White Settlement gets its name because the location was whites (Anglos) had settled in what was then largely Indian territory. It's origins are descriptive rather than racist, but the name for better or worse, alas, does refer to ethnicity. That said, most people never give it a second thought.

Prop. 1 +14%
Prop. 2 -.05%

Adrian running down Ochoa Street in El Paso naked if Prop 2 fails: 91%

Schwarzenegger's props: All fail!

Posted by: Adrian at November 8, 2005 02:33 PM

Am I supposed to predict the real vote numbers or the ones that the Diebolds of the world will magically produce for us?

Where is my receipt?

Posted by: Clay G. at November 8, 2005 03:09 PM

Prop. 1 - 58%
Prop. 2 - 41%

White - 83%

Posted by: zapata at November 8, 2005 03:26 PM

Only one precinct in the entire state uses Diebold machines. There are electronic voting machines, but not many of them are made by Diebold.

And sorry about the WS mistake. Probably not the worst idea for them to change the name, but I always thought it was funny growing up. Maybe all of Collin County could change their name to that...

Oh, let me make some other predictions for fun. I tend to be very wrong about all of this.

Hernandez: 44% Salinas 27% (goes to a runoff)

Bloomberg: 61%
Kaine: 50% Kilgore: 48% Potts: 2%
All of Schwarzenegger's props fail
Hendrix (Detroit Mayor): 55%
Frye: 47% in San Diego
Corzine: 58%

Am I missing anything?
