October 31, 2005Howard In, White OutBy Karl-Thomas MusselmanBumped. Welcome visitors from the Donna Howard campaign e-mail, this is the post you were probably looking for. -KT I've been aware of the talk that Kelly White would jump into the HD 48 primary in the hope of being a "consensus candidate" according to local consultant David Butts. This has been causing tensions of course since White is candidate Donna Howard's treasurer, and would immediately change the dynamic of the race for all candidates including Andy Brown (who's website design and e-mail images are still too wide to fit in average sized browsers) and AISD school board president Kathy Rider. But this weekend I was at a fundraiser for the No Nonsense campaign where I learned that Kelly was giving Donna 'veto power' over any run she might make. And considering I just received an e-mail press release stating that Donna was in the race no matter what from consultant Kelly Fero, a run by White has now effectively been 'vetoed'. White is instead focusing her immediate time raising five figure money for an upcoming project for the No Nonsense campaign. I'd also like to thank White for winning a No Nonsense campaign shirt at the fundraiser as a Thanksgiving present for my father. The press release... I think that if Kelly ran in the special election, she would win it outright, or at least come close. She's got the best name recognition of anyone and is widely respected. Also, she got a fair chunk of Republican support last year- if you look at the precinct reports, you find that Kelly outpolled Kerry everywhere and Bush outpolled Baxter everywhere, meaning that a lot of Bush supporters voted for Kelly. And if she won the special election, she would win the general election, too. But if what K-T says is true, then all of this is academic. Posted by: Ted at October 31, 2005 12:28 PMkelly white's time has come and gone. she should have done the job last year but ran an incomptenent race, lacked the courage to fight for a recount when she lost by the narrowest margin, and now thinks anyone would line up behind her again? you can't trust kelly white any more than you can trust todd baxter. good riddance to them both. Posted by: neil at October 31, 2005 01:20 PMSo Kelly's plaintive cries - "Pay attention to me! Somone, please pay attention to me!" - fell on deaf ears? Gee, what a shame. Posted by: sheila at October 31, 2005 02:29 PMWe are so fortunate to have Donna Howard as a candidate who can win this election. Her integrity, experience, ability and cooperative, supportive approach to problem solving will make a huge difference in the legislature. Winning the special election is about getting votes. Please help to bring out the people who care on Election Day. Helen Roberts, Grandmother Posted by: Helen Roberts at October 31, 2005 10:23 PMWhy don't people like Brown in this race? I think he is the only candidate in this race whose treaurer is not considering a run against him. No - wait I heard that K.T. just had drinks with Fero. The new rumor has Janis Penelli, Brown's treasurer, will run if Kelly doesn't, but Donna does, and Kathy Rider only runs in the primary and Andy runs as an independent for JP4. Posted by: Rick Perry's Comb at October 31, 2005 10:51 PMHaha, awesome Rick Perry's Comb. I love how people think I'm in constant contact with Fero considering I've never even met him and have barely had any online contact with him. But remember, Baxter is actually going to re-enter the race in the spring just to suprise everyone. Posted by: Karl-T at October 31, 2005 11:44 PMAnd I thought San Antonio party politics was crazy. You guys up I-35 are giving us a run for our money. I couldn't tell Andy Brown from Adam or Howard or Rider from Eve, but from everything y'all have been putting out about them, this is the state house race that's intrigued me the most right now. And yes, winning the special election-any election- is about getting votes. Cincinnatus, Grandson Posted by: Cincinnatus at November 1, 2005 02:48 AMI see where Howard has called for debates in the special election campaign. Good move. She seems to be the most qualified candidate for the job and I like her political skills so far, too. Posted by: Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing at November 1, 2005 07:11 AMPost a comment
