Refugees Arrive in Austin
By Karl-Thomas Musselman
The first wave of NOLA refugees has arrived in Austin on Capitol Metro buses headed to the Convention Center from the airport. They were sighted on Cesar Chavez just minutes ago with police escorts and an ambulance. The electronic displays say "Captal Metro/Welcome to Austin" alternating on the front of Express Route busses which don't otherwise run on weekends. The electonic highway notification signs are giving directions to incoming buses and cars. The first group sighted was a caravan of 10 buses.
Remember to look at how you can help.

Perhaps Congress' first order of business (whenever they return from recess) should be to overturn the recently passed pork-laden appropriations bill. In the almost forgotten true spirit of American bi-partisanism, Congress should instead dedicate that money to rebuilding the homes, the infrastructures, and the economies of our Gulf States. It is truly shocking to me that some politicians might believe that the "highway to nowhere" in Alaska is a more worthy expendature of public funds than the I-10 Causeway bridges, which were severely damaged by hurricane Katrina.
It is my fervent hope that our political leaders care as much about the Gulf States of the American South as they do about the Gulf States of the Middle East!
More than likely that "highway to nowhere" in Alaska will allow transport of oil from an undisclosed oil field owned by a Bush buddy!
I personally think the best message we could send to everyone is to show up at the Astrodome with big old pots and tell the Red Cross to shove the "municipal codes" and have a big old crawfish boil in the parking lot and show everyone in Washington what "family" is all about.
And tell all the politicians to go somewhere else when they show up for another "Kodak moment."
