Keep Your Enemies Closer

By Phillip Martin

As Damon reported a little earlier, John Sharp will not be running for Governor. The reason? Governor Perry appointed Sharp to chair a select commission on public school finance. The commission's job will be to carefully study the complex problem, and present a complete solution to the Texas Legislature in the near future. Due to the scope of that commission, Sharp will not be able to commit himself to a full-scale Governor campaign.

With this news, one of Perry's biggest potential challengers for Governor is officially out of the running, and Perry has put himself up as Mr. Bipartisan.

I will refrain from my usual editorializing, because I imagine a lot of people have a lot to say.

Says it all, doesn't it? Politics as usual.

Are you all sure this takes him out of the running? If it does, then it probably means Sharp never wanted to run for Gov. in the first place, as he was not under any sort of legal obligation to chair the school finance commission. But once again, why can't he do both? Members of Congress fly back and forth to Washington twice a week and manage to run campaigns.

Politically, an impressive move by Perry. He's really looking like he's got this thing wrapped up.

Um, one would assume that Perry and Sharp would've worked things out before this announcement. Why would Perry appoint Sharp to this high-profile position without Sharp's word that he would not challenge Perry for governor?

Rick Perry sings "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper to John Sharp:
I see your true colors shining through,
I see your True Colors
That's why I love you....

For once, Marie, you and I are in total agreement.

Calling Roy Spence... Calling Roy Spence...

Yep... John Sharp and Perry are very smart they will look like leaders willing to work on both sides… And poor old Chris bell will be left asking Alvarado for a campaign internship job for the Gen election because he can’t seem to gain any traction!

Unfortunately our Demo Party has no fight in it for any statewide election. Lets just focus on the house seats!

One thing about this is clear: Perry has had 5 tries at school finance, and has failed every single time, and now, he's had to turn to a Democrat for help.
