The cartoon is interesting because in fact most conservatives do not believe in personal choice or in the right to privacy. That in fact is more a reflection of the Libertarian Party.
I think what was interesting about Clarence Thomas, who is a Libertarian, in his dissent on 21.06 was his concern over the privacy issue which seemed at odds with his own position on 21.06. It probably reflected a dissent to come after the ruling that has focused on the civil union/marriage issue which has put a lot of people at odds with their own position. Both personal and political.
We live in a country where suddenly everything has returned to "black and white" and our political climate is not real conducive to even debate, let alone change, when it comes to social issues. The people who support this amendment are not interested in debate. They pick up a Bible, quote a verse or two, point a finger and tell you that if you oppose it then you are damned to hell along with the homosexuals but as good Christians they will pray for your soul as well as the souls of the homosexuals. Such nice people. And then remind you that they are Republicans, too, and Republicans rule. So you better damn behave.
Discrimination shouldn't be codified either in law or through constitutional amendment and every state representative who voted for this to be put on the ballot should be removed from office and hopefully will be. Particularly if the amendment passes. I think most Texans agree with Kinky Friedman that gays and lesbians should have every right to be miserable like everyone else. Whether they will go to the polls and vote no on this amendment is another matter. Many fear the venegeful God. Particularly the one in Austin.
The cartoon is a good one just the same. Points out the hypocrisy of quite a few on this and many other social issues in this country.
And we looooooooooove you Baby Snooks - and the rest of the great people of this state as well!
The Sargent cartoon was spot on. But, damn, that flash from Kinky is the freshest thing that I have seen in ages.
