Adding to the Pack

By Karl-Thomas Musselman

Make that yet another Republican jumping into the HD 47 Republican primary. Looks like Jason Earle is the only Democrat running on our side, though if anyone can put me in contact with his campaign, please drop me or Damon a line. From the Quorum Report...

Alex Castano officially kicked off his campaign for House District 47 today in front of about 100 adult supporters and a passel of children. Castano, a father of seven, had billed the event as a family affair and clay, crayons and an air castle outside the middle school where he announced provided a backdrop to his introduction.

Castano quoted from President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysberg Address to begin and said, "The people do not work to serve the government, but rather the government shall work to serve the people."

Once elected, he said he would stand up for the people of Texas and say no to big government. He laid out three key issues he would seek to overhaul as a member of the House: the state’s tax system, school finance, and immigration.

On your post, you asked that someone from the Earle campaign contact you. I've gotten to know Jason fairly well over the last couple of weeks, and I'm meeting with him again this week. He's been focusing his energy on Katrina relief efforts, but soon he will kick his campaign into high gear. He's been swamped lately, so I'll report back to you if Jason has any further updates.

With his loyal core group of volunteers, Jason might be able to run a real field campaign that could actually make a difference in a tight race. If the Republicans beat each other up in the primary, then who knows? While HD 47 is an uphill challenge, Jason is an optimistic and energetic social worker who might be able to charm independents and moderate Republicans. If you have any advice regarding HD 47 that you would like to pass on to Jason, then please email me. Thanks.

Many thanks Ian! I look forward to hearing on how your meeting goes and of course, if you can even get me in touch with Jason himself that would be excellent. That is one of the districts we will be very active with on the blogs as well as on the ground, and I'm sure that the UDems can help out as well over the course of the campaign.

Keep your powder dry. Others might still jump in the race.

Ever since Ronnie Earle spurred the indictment of Tom Delay, Delay's minions have been bringing up the ill-fated trial of Kay Bailey-Hutchison. At the time of her acquital, Earle gave all of his damning evidence to a newspaper, which printed the same. I would love to see a reprint of that article. The country needs to see what a piece of work she is. I think it was either a Dallas newspaper or the Houston Press. Can you find out which, and ask them to reprint that article? She needs to be brought down along with Delay.
