Who's Dirty Now?
By Karl-Thomas Musselman
If you are a Republican in the state of Texas, you are well aware of the personal enjoyment you receive flogging Democrats for being friends of those slick trial lawyers. So after launching a Constitutional Amendment against them (the infamous Prop 12) to limit awards, you'd think that all the fun was gone.
Most certainly not.
If you're Rick Perry you attack your primary opponent CKMRS for taking money from what was the Democrat's last lifeline of money in this state. Of course, this would be a great line of attack, if it wasn't for the fact that the Good Hair Campaign took $35,000 of those dirty dollars as well. This fits perfectly with the tradition of being a Texas Republican officeholder and being hypocritical.
A Perry spokesman accused Strayhorn last month of "selling her soul" by accepting donations from trial lawyers.
In December, Perry was the biggest recipient of contributions from the HillCo political action committee, which had gotten $100,000 from a Corpus Christi-based trial lawyers' political committee, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.
Strayhorn's campaign accused Perry of hypocrisy.
A Perry spokesman said it was impossible to say the money came from trial lawyers because it had gone through two committees.
What, just two committees fooled you? I thought Republicans were the masters of routing money through committees. Tsk Tsk. The Perry campaign fired back saying at least the MoFo could only buy a bed with the money, unlike Carol who was rolling around in one with actual trial lawyers.
"Governor Perry took money from the HillCo PAC while the comptroller is personally soliciting private plane rides and hundreds of thousands of dollars from personal-injury attorneys."
Of course, one must wonder if there is enough of that glorious dirty money left for us Democrats to play with in 2006.
