Voting Rights Act Turns 40
By Vince Leibowitz
I did not realize it, but according to CivilRights.org, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 turns 40 on Saturday.
Though I'm not going to make this one of my long posts, I do want to say that the Civil Rights Act of 1965 is something that makes me very proud of Democrats and Texas' own Lyndon Johnson.
If you've never read "Taking Charge," the book that transcribes many tape recorded conversations from the Lyndon Johnson White House, now would be a great time to do so. Some editions, as I recall, come with an actual tape of many of the conversations. As I recall there are several calls transcribed having to do with the Civil Rights Act, and all are very revealing and interesting.
