Dan Barrett Tosses His Hat In The Ring For 2006
By Damon McCullar
Dan Barret has announced that he will run for the Texas House of Representatives in 2006. He is running in the 97th district which is in Forth Worth and is made up by the southwestern corner of Tarrant County.
I saw a lot of you Tarrant County Dems at DemFest this summer. Lets get out there and get Dan Barret elected.

HD 97 2002 Vote for Lt. Governor:
DEWHURST, DAVID 25,671 58.1%
SHARP, JOHN 18,528 41.9%
Odd of winning: highly, highly unlikely.
If you had looked at the stark numbers on a sheet of paper last year, you may never have taken on Talmadge Heflin or the other incumbent Republican lawmakers who lost last year, either.
This isn't about just numbers on sheets of papers. It's about corruption, incompetence, abuse of power. It's about people who aren't getting the job done and need to be fired. In that dynamic, almost any seat is up for grabs -- includng this one.
Before we start working on getting him elected, let's try to master spelling his name correctly. Barrett has two "T"s.

Yeah, and even an elementary school review of comapring Anna Mowery's distrtict to Talmadge Heflin's shows the difference is night and day.
UnlikeHeflin's seat, this part of Tarrant County has no large Asian influx and has a solid conservative church base for the Republicans.
Heflin's seat was used as a dumping ground for minority pockets of strength under the assumption that Heflin's seniority would withstand the reduction in Republican strength. The GOP gambled and they lost.
There are targets of opportunity in Tarrant County, this just isn't one of them.
"It's about corruption, incompetence, abuse of power."
That does not describe Anna Mowery. She's a sweet old lady who will be difficult to peg as some right-wing extremist.
It isn't about any of this. It is about one thing: run everywhere.
There is only one way to guarantee that we don't win a race, and that is to not run anybody there.
God Bless Mr. Barrett and I hope he works as hard as he can to begin the process of opening minds, changing hearts and rebuilding the Democratic Party in Tarrant County. Assuming he has no primary opposition, he has my support. If he does, I'll reserve my judgement until after the primary. I keep primary support under wraps as I don't like sowing division and I work for the TDP.
Wow, a personal injury trial lawyer, running against a long term incumbent former school teacher in a 60% Republican District...that is something to really get excited about. Has no one figured out, this allows him to get his name out in public at the expense of campaign contributions to futher his law practice with no chance of winning...
Barrett's a Trial Lawyer? Oh, running one of those in a conservative Republican district, that is SUCH a smart thing to do - NOT!
Yessir, Democrats just keep forming that firing squad in a circle.
