A Breakthrough Ad
By Karl-Thomas Musselman
Thank to PinkDome for bringing this to our attention, but for progressives and the GLBT community, this ad by candidate Brian Ellner for Manhattan Borough President is really powerful. Take a look.
Here's a listing of all the candidates and some background on this wide open race.

Is it just me or did the ad have nothing to do with the position he's running for? How can he oppose President Bush as Borough President? What relevance does love life have with his qualities to serve as Borough President? Yay! We have an openly gay candidate! Now what? He says he's progressive. Progressive how? I'm not familiar with New York politics, but merely bashing Bush and putting his arm around his partner wouldn't get him elected in a lot of places (not just the South). Good luck to Mr. Ellner. With sensational ads like that, he's gonna need it
He's not running other places, he's running in Manhattan, New York City. I read his bio and he is a great candidate and I hope he wins.
Yeah, I've got to agree with "huh?".
I don't have any kind of problem with the ad, except that it's basically kind of bad. The photoshopping on Bush is amateur, the dude looks akward as hell trying to master the whole "walking and talking at the same time thing" and the end, while gutsy were in Texas, just strikes me as trite pandering.
Good luck to the candidate, I guess. But I wouldn't exactly call this groundbreaking.
