July 28, 2005CHRIS BELL RUNNING FOR GOVERNORBy Damon McCullar
The formal announcement was made today by email:
To read the entire announcement, check out the Chris Bell Blog. The unique thing about this declaration was that there was no press conference. Average Texans were finding out the answer to whether Chris would run at the same time as the Austin power brokers and the mainstream media. Chris Bell, former Congressman from Houston is best known for breaking the "ethics truce" and bring ethics complaints against Rep. Tom DeLay. Chris has also served on the Houston City Council before running for Congress. More information about Chris Bell, his history in public service, and his vision for Texas can be found on his website. Sonia wanted to say, "I hope Chris runs. Texas needs him". Posted by: Karl-T at July 28, 2005 01:33 PMGreat timing, Chris. With all eyes on the Lege and school finance hanging in the balance, you decide that what we want to hear about is that you have finally decided to do what you have been telling us you were going to do for the past six months? Sometimes, it is not about you. It just is not. Posted by: Distracted D at July 28, 2005 05:01 PMDistracted is right. This man's announcement is disgusting the way he talks about himself and exploits his wife, who has cancer for goodness sake. He should stop this self-centered crusade and go home to his wife, where he belongs. Posted by: Cafe Tortoli at July 28, 2005 07:09 PMWTF... You obviously don't know Alison Bell. I do. She sure as hell wouldn't let anyone exploit her so I suggest that you go home and start thinking of ways to occupy your time once Rick Perry and the do-nothing Republicans are out of office. Posted by: Marie at July 28, 2005 07:26 PMMarie, you sound like one of the consultants who are bleeding Chris dry: arrogant, mean, intolerant. Posted by: Cafe Tortoli at July 28, 2005 08:49 PMGuys, to be fair, Chris had told everyone that he would announce before July was over, and he needed to announce today before it all got lost in the weekend. He was keeping his word, and I think he displayed himself with class. To those who think he was trying to exploit his wife -- whatever. That's nonsense, you know it, everyone else knows it, so rant and burn and try to tear down the only Democrat who has ACTUALLY stood up to Perry so far for the election. It's your voice, and your conscience. I don't know if I'll vote for Chris come March, but I was encouraged by some of what he had to say, and I look forward to listening with an open mind in the future.
