Intention to Resign
By Karl-Thomas Musselman
It's not every day that we get to report on major scoops here on the Burnt Orange Report, but if an unnamed source under the Dome is correct as we are prone to believe, then this is one of those scoops.
Chatter has it that University of Texas-Austin President Larry Faulkner called the capitol today to give people the heads up that tomorrow, Thursday, he is planning on announcing his intention to resign his office.
Faulkner just recently selected Juan Gonzalez, outgoing Vice President of Student Affairs at Arizona State, to be the replacement for Dr. James Vick, outgoing VP of Student Affairs at UT-Austin. The Vice President selection process has not been with out its own controversies and withdrawn candidates documented here, here, here, and here.

It may be cooming sooner than anticipated. You can check Rich Oppel's column on the Austin American Statesman on March 6th where he talks about this, although he was saying that it would happen until next year. In that column he also says that the three internal candidates to replace him would be: the Provost Sheldon Eckland-Olson, Dean Powers of the Law School and Dean Lariviere from Liberal Arts.
On March 13th, in the same Statesman another article in which Faulkner hints his resignation.
Umm... I think this has been fairly common knowledge in the backrooms and bathrooms of UT for a while. He's made significant changes to the University, value judgements aside, and who wants to stick around for another legislative session? That being said, I hope Lariviere is actually in the running.
www.dailytexanonline.com has the story
I don't want to know what bathrooms you've been hangind around in then Matt. :)
Lariviere and Powers are probably the two most powerful deans of the university. At least it looks like there would be good internal choices for this.
I agree they would be good choices, if they were to opt for an internal candidate.
Does anybody has any idea where past UT Presidents came from? Faulkner was Provost at Illinois but was always linked to UT.
It seems like a lot of them had been deans.
