Re: purchasing power
The purchasing power of the minimum wage has fallen by over fifteen percent since 1997, the last time y'all gave poor folks a raise.

On a curious note --- you might want to take a look at how many "cost of living" adjustments Congress has given itself since it last gave the working stiffs of this country a "cost of living" raise. It's tough making 6 digits stretch into a decent living in DC.
why should the government tell an employer how much to pay someone? Shouldn't the free market determine that? Those minimum wage jobs are mostly entry level anyways. As you develop more skills you will make more money. A good topic though to be sure. Welcome to all the new writers at Burnt Orange. Even though i'm out here in California, I like to check with you guys to see what's happening down in Texas. I also have to credit BOR with inspiration to name my blog after my favorite teams colors, UCLA.
