Sessions to support Bonilla for Senate?
By Byron LaMasters
D Magazine has the rumor:
Political pundits are guessing how the dominoes will fall if Kay Bailey decides to take on Rick Perry in '06. One theory had Pete Sessions running for her spot--in turn freeing up an open House seat for an up-and-comer (like, say, Dan Branch).
But a Dallas insider says that Sessions has set his sights on another position: chair of the NRCC, which is an internal position elected by the House Republican Conference. (Interestingly enough, Martin Frost held the comparable post for the Democrats in the mid-nineties, during the Republican takeover of the House.) That means Sessions is staying put.
According to our source, Sessions has even promised to support Henry Bonilla if he runs for Hutchison's seat.
Pete Sessions would be smart not to run for U.S. Senate. After all he ran about 8-9% points behind the average Republican index in 2004. Democrats, including myself would have all sorts of fun with him if he were to be the GOP nominee.

I'm sure he'll wait till you get that job in your chosen profession and relocate to another state; otherwise, I'm sure he's just shivering in his boots with fear. ;-)
Thanks, Peter, for your enlightening comments.
Anyhow, Sessions' is lucky to be where he is now. The man's father was head of the FBI, yet he still lost his first TWO races for Congress, finally winning on his third try thanks to nothing more than his dad's name. Tell me once piece of legislation he has authored and passed. The man is a moron, plain and simple.
Pete will not run because he cannot win. As far as NRCC goes, I don't generally give Republicans that much credit, but even they are smarter than to pick someone of his meager intellectual capacity. Did anyone see the first debate between him and Frost. The Frost people sent out an email with Sessions' opening statement--I wish I still had it--and it might have been the single most incomprehensible thing I have ever read. The guy couldn't spell CAT if you spotted him the C and the T.
Let's hope Bonilla runs, because that means Kay-Bay is running for gov, and there are few things more gratifying than watching conservative and moderate Republicans go after one another in a primary.
I know this has been mentioned before, but during this last race, Frost was endorsed over Sessions by Elizabeth Smart's father, a strong Republican. You are right, StreakyPete--he has done nothing constructive in congress, while Frost's tireless efforts on the national Amber Alert earned him the endorsement by Mr. Smart.
And, yes, Republican infighting is indeed entertaining.
Peter, get a grip.
