Place 4: Jennifer Gale "gets no satisfaction"

By Karl-Thomas Musselman

I was wandering around the web and came upon the Austin City Council video statements at the city election site. Though I'm not going to sit through a dozen videos, I was interested in 15 (17?) time candidate Jennifer Gale, transgender homeless former Marine who many of us on campus have come to know and love (well, a few of us). Last election cycle when Gale ran in an AISD election, she carried 3 of the 6 campus precincts and her chalk advertisements and round paper ads posted on electricity boxes in West Campus are common place.

But her video. You just have to watch it. The best part is when she breaks out in song at 3:44. I've cut the 4 best clips apart for you to watch if you have limited speed and bandwith.

00:00 Hi Austin, it's springtime again!
00:17 < holds up her flyer >
00:27 Really, who votes on a Saturday so please, vote early.
01:00 Remember, the first thing you do is vote for the last name on the ballot, Jennifer Gale.
01:22 I'm also going to hire a wheelchair bound student intern to complete the finest political team ever assembled.
01:34 Or you could be my mascot. Every team needs a mascot!
02:06 Now many of you are going to elect me because you feel I'm sexy, and that should go without saying. But I want you to vote for me because we are going to be there for each other.
02:44 A newspaper owned by Austin like the Green Bay Packer owns the Packers.
03:08 As a former US Marine, I will come to you, to your high school to meet with you to promote our PTAs and share a potluck dinner and discuss issues.
03:44 < sings Rolling Stones- I Can't Get No Satisfaction >
04:12 My other opponent Wes Bennidict ran 2 years ago in Place 6, in the American of African heritage place.

Gale carried all of the campus precincts?

She lost 147 by a 14-2 margin.

She won 148 by a 24-18 margin.

Fortunately, she lost my precint (137) also by a 7-3 margin (and I was one of the 7 votes for her opponent, Doyle Valdez).

I'm not sure which other campus precincts that you are talking about, but Gale did not win them all.

Also, Jennifer Gale and Leslie are several of the people that do make Austin, Austin. They certainly add comic relief to our city council and mayoral races. And I'll add that I'm happy that Jennifer Gale has a new t-shirt. She looks good in the MLK t-shirt - much better than the stained sweatshirt...

However, I'm still a bit annoyed that Gale called the ALGPC (Austin Lesbian/Gay Political Caucus) - an organization where I am a board member - a "mean-spirited" organization. Gale was not allowed to speak at our endorsement meeting because she failed to comply with our requirements. Only candidates that submitted their questionaires by our deadline were allowed to speak to the membership at the endorsement meeting. Gale never submitted her questionaire to our organization. In a sense, however, I take pride in joining respected Austin political consultant David Butts in being attacked by Jennifer Gale at the UD/CAD/APC endorsement meeting. It's something of a badge of honor.

Oh please Byron, get over your ALGPC spat. No one cares.

I was trying to remember the map that had the Gale results and it's here. She won 3 of the 6 campus area precints (on campus and west campus) and outperformed her 38.7% in one of the other ones. My mistake.

well get over your support of jennifer gale. She's a 15 (17?) time loser. You just look silly when you stand up and speak out for her. If you look at the map which you link to - you will see that her votes didn't come from central and south austin progressives but rather from southeast, southwest and northern austinities in more conservative precincts. Progressives don't oppose her because she is a transgendered woman - I could care less. We oppose her because she is not a serious candidate - she's a joke.

Did I say anywhere in that post that I was supporting her Byron? I don't appreciated having words put in my mouth. I posted it because it was a funny piece.

Guys, please don't fight!! All that matters is that she got some new clothes and will never be mayor. Plus, she has stopped hitting on me at endorsement meetings, and has only chased me down the street once. Being in AZ certainly does have perks! Byron, she picked a fight with me, too, and got a CAD involved. So, Jennifer is an all-around freak, and Karl-T, that was a funny piece.

Spread the love, peeps!!
