Chris Bell Liveblog
By Byron LaMasters
I missed the Chris Bell conference call tonight, but The Agonist has a liveblog of the call. Charles Kuffner set up the call, and I planned to attend, but catching up with sleep was more of a priority. I've also already had several opportunities to speak with Chris Bell over the past months, and whether he wins the Democratic nomination or not, I commend him for criss-crossing the state so far ahead of the campaign with a Democratic message (and for taking on Tom DeLay).
Update: Nate also liveblogged the call. Corked Bats blogged Chris Bell in Dallas, and Kuff had a recap.

Oddly enough, I was in the exact position. Exams and all.
Nonetheless, Kuff has done a great job.
Listen, I have nothing special against Chris Bell, although my Houston friends have long been concerend about his tendcency to run against Black Democrats.
I just think it's folly to think he will ever be elected statewide as a gubernatorial candidate. Ken Bentsen was a congressman from Houston with a solid base of support there, and he got crushed statewide. Bell is an ex-congressman who lost his reelection bid by almost three-to-one. No solid base of support there. How's he going to win statewide?
Again, nothing specific against him. But let's get real here. Comptroller, maybe, or even Attorney General if all the stars line up. But not Governor. Let's not waste our time.
Interestingly, "Gus" from above doesn't even exist. Try to email him. It will bounce back to you because he is an "unknown member." Could he possibly be yet another one of Rick Perry's minions playing yet another little petty game?
Let's let the Republicans screw themselves this time around and not allow them to deceive us.
Former Congressman Chris Bell was the victim of the Tom DeLay maschine, and under those circumstances he was not able to attain the nomination for his re-election as a Congressman. Chris Bell is motivated, and is ready to be nominated and win the gubernatorial raise. I do have faith in him, and I know that if anyone- he will take Texas.
