Bruce Rothstein seemed awfully ill-at-ease, even though he was speaking to a small group of supportive people at a casual restaurant setting. I can't imagine him running a meeting. Posted by: kitty at April 26, 2005 09:41 AMByron, I think Darlene Ewing is the best candidate. She has been an public servant, serving as a judge in the early 1990s, active in CFE, and very good East Dallas County activist, helping out candidates like Former Sens, David Cain and Ted Lyon, Reps Dale Tillery, Harryette Ehrhardt. She will do a good job of expanding the urban-suburban coalition we need to win Dallas County for every countywide candidate. Bruce has done a lot of good work and is a dedicated Democrat, but Darlene is the better candidate. This was a Mexican restraunt that is very popular in Grand Prarie, It was filled to capacity for most of the night with no seperation from the diners, so there was considerable noise and distraction, A lady sat behind me in one of the booths and her child sang (loudly enough to distract me) while the candidates were speaking. I suggest that Kitty should make the forum at the Magnolia on May 5th at 6:30 and see a forum in a true forum enviornment. I'm going to tip my hand here, but I think that Bruce is the person that I want to lead the party down the road. All of the candidates were well spoken and intelligent, but I think the success of the party goes beyond that, This is not going to be a part time deal. There is a lot yet to be accomplished and it's going to require a lot of time and energy. I also think that we should elect someone who is going to lead us for not one year but possibly several years. I feel we are finally headed in the right direction and that we need continuity,. I know and like both of the other candidates, but I didn't feel the comfort zone with them that I did with Bruce. tom madrzykowski Posted by: tom madrzykowski at April 26, 2005 11:31 PMPersonally, I am excited that we have three excellent candidates from which to choose. I feel confident that when the ballots are counted I won't feel bad about the results. I hope the two candidates not chosen won't take it personally and will still lend us their very needed skills and experience. I like Walter's quiet, unassuming confidence. He has impressed me as having the best business skills - something we greatly need right now. Our goal is to get Democrats elected, but along that road we also have to make sure that good ideas are properly implemented and that our bills our paid on time. Posted by: Susan Culp at April 27, 2005 03:44 PMSorry, Tom--I've already given my endorsement to Darlene. Hopefully, the two candidates who are not elected will stay on and give their considerable talents to the party. Posted by: kitty at April 28, 2005 09:57 AMMaybe Kitty is referring to the fact that Bruce stutters a little bit. Many people do, myself included, and it has nothing to do with actual competance. This doesn't affect my confidence in him, nor do I think that has anything to do with his qualifications. He knows what he is talking about, he knows what needs to be done, and I had no problems understanding him (excepting of course the noise level of the restraunt).
