I'm a Chauvinistic Pig!

By Byron LaMasters

I'm not sure if I should be offended for being called a chauvinist (a homosexual chauvinist at that), or if I should take it as a badge of honor, considering that the attack comes from Chris Elam - an Aggie who happens to be a Republican political consultant whose client list includes our good friend, Tom DeLay (and I'd be neglectful if I did not point out that Chris Elam is a heterosexual).

I guess I'll choose the badge of honor. Chris got a bit perturbed with my take on a story stating that escorts and strip clubs were preparing for a big week when the GOP is in town for their convention. Did I mention that Chris is straight?

A bit perturbed is an understatement. First, Chris makes an ad hominem attack on strippers and "madams", since you know - they can't be trusted. Well, sure, some exaggeration might be involved, but I'll trust a stripper before I'll trust a Republican. Second, Chris suggests that it's not the Republicans that would be engaged in these activities. Why, it's the liberal media! Of course. I should have thought of that one myself. You know, because Republicans would never do things that contradict the strong family values planks in their platform. Third, Chris calls me a chauvinist, because I don't think of the women. Or maybe right-wingers believe that homosexuality is synonymous with chauvinism, since we believe in the superiority of one's own gender - hmm... well in bed, yes, but everywhere else... no. Fine then, call me a chauvinist in the bedroom, but it's an insult anywhere else. Otherwise, the sarcasm escapes me. Fourth, Chris accuses me of turning on feminists and embracing conservative moral values. Wait, didn't he just attack me as a chauvinist? You really have to spell it out to these right-wingers. I stated that a Republican delegate poised a greater threat to the institution of marriage by going to a strip club or hiring an escort than did gay and lesbian couples that wanted to get married. The right-wing Republican interpretation of that is that I want to close down strip clubs and I'm a hypocrite since I'm a liberal that ya know, should be supporting these feminists. Right. I'd challenge Chris to find me a couple that has gotten divorced because gays and lesbians want to get married. On the other hand, I'm sure we could both find people who got divorced because of an affair that one partner had with a stripper or escort. I never made a moral judgement on either of those activities, simply a factual one. It's not my place to make moral judgements on either activity, but that's a debate for another time. Anyway, I'll spare yall the rest. You can read more from Chris on his blog, here. He happens to be a heterosexual by the way (did I mention that earlier?).

Thanks for replying Byron. The quote "I'll trust a stripper before I trust a Republican" is priceless. But I know you had just as much fun as I did writing on this post. =)

And thanks for posting the photos of my trip. San Francisco really is a beautiful city.

A heterosexual and one who would, in his words "would fight and sacrifice" for his country. Dude, the time is now. You're 23 with a cat as a dependent -- enlist. Do the right thing.

Chris is not going to enlist in the military. Maybe serve in the national guard and work on political campaigns - Republicans call that serving your country. He is just a typical Republican - "do as I say - not as I do".

i think its funny that no one bothered to talk about how he caught your guy being so biased and selective with his quotes. then you guystrust hookers too?

but typically, all liberals can do is try to change the subjectand make fun of christians and conservatives.

i love the part where your guy says he doesnt make moral judgments but the entire first post he made talks about how republicans are going to destroy the family structure. idiot

Note to all gay chauvanist Austinites:

ACTION ALERT!
Focus on the Family attempts to protray Federal
Marriage Amendment as Patriotic! We need your help!

On Sunday, the 4th of July, a
religious right group called TakeUp.org is
sponsoring a rally, "A Declaration of Dependence"
One Nation Under God at 4pm on the south steps of
the Texas capitol building. Advertised as a time of
"prayer and praise", the keynote speaker is Tony
Perkins, President of the Family Research Council,
an ultra right-wing religious group (the political
arm of Focus on the Family), and one of America's
most active supporters of the Federal Marriage Am
endment. To learn more about the rally go to:

www.takeup.org/july4_event.htm

LGRL of Texas is working with Soulforce Austin to
respond to the intolerance of the radical religious
right.

We need your help to galvanize a city-wide
non-violent response to the untruths about the LGBT
community and our families that will be spread to
thousands of Austinites that day.

Here is the plan:

1. LGBT singles, couples, families, and our
heterosexual allies will meet at 2:00pm at the
Metropolitan Community Church of Austin, 8601 South
1st Street for a brief training in the Soulforce
principles of nonviolence. If you have never been to
a Soulforce training, it is imperative that you attend this brief meeting prior to participating in
our Soulforce Austin action at the capitol. At the training you will receive a T-shirt, provided by
LGRL of Texas. The T-shirts read "I can't" for gay
participants, or "I do" for our heterosexual allies.
The back of both T-shirts reads "Come Out and
Support Marriage". The training meeting will be finished by 2:45pm.

2. At 4:00pm we will attend the rally on the south
steps of the capitol wearing the T-shirts provided
by LGRL. This is a silent protest. We will not yell,
call out, or otherwise respond vocally to any of the
speaker's antigay comments. In keeping with our
Soulforce principles, we will instead "absorb the
suffering" without responding in any manner that
could be perceived as violent or aggressive.
However, we will not hide who we are. We encourage
couples to hold hands or put your arms aro und each
other's shoulders as a visual expression of your
love and commitment. We encourage families to hold their children. We encourage singles to just be yourself and stand with friends . . . or if you are
comfortable, hold the hand of a friend. Let them
guess who's a couple and who's not!

That's it. Very simple. Your presence and the truth
of of your life, we believe, will challenge the
speaker's antigay statements in a way more powerful
than any words. Please note: If you do not feel you
are emotionally ready to be involved in such an
action without reacting in anger, we respectfully
ask you to decline participating in this response.

A debriefing will be held at MCC-Austin immediately
after the rally for all those who want to share
their personal experience in being involved with the
action. If you have any questions, please contact
Jeff Lutes, Coordinator of Soulforce Austin, at
jluteslpc@msn.com.

Again, please attend the brief training at 2:00pm if
you have never been trained in the Soulforce
principles of non-violence. Let's fight for our
freedom this 4th of July!

Seriously - don't respond to that kind of bullshit. This guy is from SUGARLAND - heartland of Tom DeLay and other foolishness. Wipe this fool off your radar and concentrate on more important matters. He's just baiting you to increase traffic to his *yawn* blog.
