Don't Cry for Me Oklahoma
By Jim Dallas
Despite losing to K-State, Oklahoma finished 1st in the BCS rankings this year.
Although personally I think an LSU/USC matchup would have been more fun to watch.
In other news, despite being ahead of OSU in the polls, Texas slipped behind Ohio State to sixth place, based on some computer polls shafting the Longhorns. As widely expected, this was enough to get screwed out of a BCS bowl invite, and again Texas will go to the Holiday Bowl. Again. (Darnit).
The BCS is just plain evil... and Kuffner and Kevin Drum agree!
Don't cry for me Oklahoma,
The truth is you don't belong here
Your loss to K-State, made us irate
BCS hopes gone, maybe next year

The non BCS invite for the Horns had NOTHING to do with Ohio St jumping in front of them. Each conference only gets 2 BCS bids at the most. OU is automatically in because it is #1 and KSU is automatically in because it won the conference. Sorry Mack, maybe next year.
Well, yes, but it all gets back to Oklahoma losing. Texas slipped in part due to the strength of schedule difference. And of course, if Kansas State didn't win, then they wouldn't have gotten that invite (and we would have).
I didn't mean to blame it on Ohio State, but slipping behind OSU was certainly symptomatic of the "higgledy-piggledy" BCS situation caused by OU losing to K-State.
Any thing as confusingly stupid as the BCS which makes ordinary people get migraines can only be blamed. I sometimes wonder if they don't just make up formulas.
That's what Calpundit said.
Once again, until the gutless wonders at the NCAA pull up their shorts and stop being the butt-boys for the Bowl Biggies and establish a (you pick one: eight team, four team) PLAYOFF system for Div. I-A Football, like every other NCAA sport, this ridiculous nonsense, whereby there is NO ONE TEAM that can claim the National Championship, will continue.
While you're complaining about those computer polls shafting UT, you might check out the NY Times poll that actually ranked them ahead of my Sooners. :)
For the record, this Sooner fan thinks the Big 12 needs to gets its best two teams in the title game, rather than North-South champs. The North was pitiful this year, and an OU-Texas rematch would have been GREAT. Plus it would have given UT a shot at earning its way into a BCS bowl. One loss in October shouldn't be the end of things, for either OU or UT, but that's the state of the conference right now.
