Hypocrite Watch: Senator Hutchison Smears Stimulus But Supports It

by: Libby Shaw

Thu Feb 11, 2010 at 01:36 PM CST

Kay Bailey Hutchison joins the vast majority of her Republican colleagues in Washington in the GOP Hall of Hypocritical and Cowardly Shame.

Many Republicans voted for the stimulus bill and now they trash it day in and day out, at least when they are in Washington.

And yet when Republican lawmakers visit their home districts, all take credit for the projects and jobs that the stimulus bill made possible.  In Texas we received:

1148 contracts: $1,178,584,964=1,398,97 jobs.

8852 grants:
$11,229,522,199=27,057,60 jobs.

Loan: (partially because Governor Perry refused to accept extended federal unemployment benefits)
$25,517,309.  What were you thinking, Governor?

So, Senator Hutchison, given your stance on the evil doing stimulus package in Washington, do you suggest that Texas send the above back?

Nope, the Party of Nope knows no shame.

Perhaps a top aide for a Republican leader in Washington should call a psychiatrist to do an intervention for the GOP. There is some rather serious bi-polar disorderly dysfunction at work that can and will compromise our nation's well-being, on literally every level.

The same Republican bi-polar disorderly dysfunction plays 24/7 with health care reform.

Republicans have had their input included in both the House and Senate bills (see CSPAN transcripts) but they deny that and Republicans will absolutely oppose health care reform, despite the President's efforts and the recent poll that reveals the two-thirds of voters want comprehensive reform.

Republicans don't care what the polls reveal because they are not concerned about what we the little people think or want. Remember, Republicans work for the corporate fat cats in insurance, Wall St. banks, big pharma, oil, gas and energy.

We have the opportunity to be heard in November. We can choose between

The Party of Hope and the Party of Nope.

One would have to seriously sell out on oneself and one's self-interest, if not one's very survival, to vote for nope.

When I write the word "survival" I use it both literally and financially. The existing health care system enables insurance companies to literally hand out death sentences as the family in the following link have learned.  Their five year old child has a rare form of cancer.  The insurance company refuses to pay for the treatment. If untreated, the five year old will die.

This is an example of the horror that is going on everyday. This is the America in which we live today.  It is legal for insurance companies to hand out death sentences when it should be criminal.

Yesterday in the mail my husband received a petition from AARP to sign and send to Senators Hutchison, Cornyn and U.S. House Rep. John Culberson.  The American Association of Retired People recognizes that an overhaul of our health care system in the U.S. is crucially important and is long overdue.

The petition reads:

As one of your constituents I urge you to move forward and act on health care reform that includes AARP's priorities.

Too many older Americans cannot afford the health care they require to lead active and healthy lives.  that is why you must vote for reforms that will...ensure a choice of affordable quality healthcare plans regardless of age or pre-existing conditions...close gaps in prescription coverage for those on Medicare...and enhance the quality of health care so that all Americans will have peace of mind.

Do not allow the opponents of health care reform to derail this opportunity through their campaign of misinformation.  Once again, as a constituent, I urge you to push forward and act on the health care reforms we so desperately need.

AARP likely does not know the extent to which the Texas lawmakers above are the opponents of health care reform. It obviously does not realize that Senators Hutchison, Cornyn and U.S. House Rep. Culberson are among those who are actively promoting campaigns of misinformation.  All have  played the fear card over and over again, bringing up death panels and calling HCR a government takeover, which as we all know is an outright lie.

I'm not holding my breath for any of them to budge even a quarter of an inch outside their far right box, but I will sign the petition and send it to all three of the obstructionist and misleading lawmakers mentioned above, highlighting the words "opponents" and "campaign of misinformation."

By obstructing health care reform Republicans are tacitly blessing today's status quo.  This means Republicans support the ability of the insurance to hand out death sentences.

There is no other way to interpret their posture on health care reform.
