Debra Medina Won't Deny Government Involvement in 9/11 Attacks, Joins Rick Perry in Crazytown

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Thu Feb 11, 2010 at 00:26 PM CST

Here's the audio of Medina on the Glen Beck show refusing to deny government involvement in 9/11.

Within minutes of this audio, Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchison supporters -- followed quickly by the press -- pronounced her campaign over. My understanding is that she has many supporters who are "Truthers" and she would not disavow any of them publicly -- hence her refusal to give a straight answer. An idiotic campaign move? Yes, absolutely.

(Update: Medina now insists she is not a Truther. Too late -- you need to answer that right the first time.)

But what's the difference between Medina having supporters who think the government was involved in September 11, and Rick Perry having supporters with signs that say this?

OMG - Unbelievable (5.00 / 1)

I knew that she had some crazy ideas, but this is amazing. Glen Beck calling you crazy; that means something about how far from reality she is.

Her plain spoken straight forward answers have always been her strength.  This type of milquetoast destroys her in two ways:

(1) It shows she is just "another" politician talking about both sides of her mouth and not
answer questions honestly when it might hurt her; and/or

(2) It shows she really is a wingnut herself who will not clearly analyze the invalidity of such insane arguments.

Why will people not stand up to the crazies in their midst?

Unfortunately, I think this will help Perry most, and that there is now a better chance that he will win without a runoff.

There's a difference (0.00 / 0)

As far as we know, Rick Perry's father doesn't have longstanding business connections with Osama bin Laden's family, whereas Dubya's father does.  And Rick Perry, whatever his many faults, wasn't in a position to issue an executive order allowing the bin Laden family to flee the USA before the FBI could question them.  One doesn't have to be a "truther" to know that something stinks to high heaven. Can you imagine what the Repubs would do if Obama's father had business ties to bin Laden's family?

Some seem to forget that others besides the Tin Hat Brigade have questioned the response of the Bush Administration to the very clear threat as presented by several EU intelligence agencies. They ignore the threat. Quite a few want to know why. The only ones who don't are the ones who support the oligarchy of the Bushes.

Exactly. (0.00 / 0)

Yeah, I don't subscribe to anyone's "theories," but there are some legitimate questions that become more obvious by the fact that no one wants to address them.  Like I said, imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and "OMG Secret Muslim Socialist!!!" Obama had been president and his family had ties to the bin Ladens, and protected them from questioning.  Why the Democrats didn't make it a major issue is certainly one of the great mysteries.

Why should we care what Republicans would have done? (0.00 / 0)
Just because they would have engaged in juvenile attacks on Obama over it doesn't mean we have to do the same to the Bushes.

The Bin Laden's have a very large family, and from my understanding OBL's association with many of them was non-existent.

It's a bit more than a juvenile attack (0.00 / 0)

In running what its own marketing literature spookily calls "a vast, interlocking, global network of businesses and investment professionals" that operates within the so-called iron triangle of industry, government, and the military, the Carlyle Group leaves itself open to any number of conflicts of interest and stunning ironies. For example, it is hard to ignore the fact that Osama bin Laden's family members, who renounced their son ten years ago, stood to gain financially from the war being waged against him until late October, when public criticism of the relationship forced them to liquidate their holdings in the firm. Or consider that U.S. president George W. Bush is in a position to make budgetary decisions that could pad his father's bank account.

And there was much sorrow on the AM dial.

Having questions (0.00 / 0)
about 9/11 hardly makes one "crazy."

Depends on your "questions" (0.00 / 0)
Questions about the competence of the administration in stopping it?  Sure.  But about the government being directly involved?  That's in crazytown.

I do believe (0.00 / 0)
Ms. Medina is asking why the 9/11 commission report was redacted. I think that's a perfectly fine "question," that doesn't make her crazy. People have always questioned huge, history-changing events.  People still question the Kennedy assassination. No one says they're "crazy" for doing so. Actually, this issue could resonate with a lot of voters.

Just dismissing her as a conspiracy theorist may backfire. She's very articulate.

No, but... (0.00 / 0)
Questioning what happened on 9/11 doesn't mean you're crazy but being a Tea Bagger indicates you probably are.
