Why I'm Supporting Bill White for Governor

by: Rep. Mike Villarreal

Thu Feb 11, 2010 at 09:34 AM CST

( - promoted by Phillip Martin)

When I think about the kind of Governor we need for the next four years, I see a Governor who has a vision for the future of the state:  a vision in which all Texas children receive a world-class education and that education serves as the foundation for the strongest economy in the world.

I picture a Governor who believes our leaders have an obligation to make the state even better for the next generation, a belief that motivated past state leaders to establish the Permanent School Fund, the University of Texas, Texas A&M University and other investments that have made our state what it is today. I want a leader who will work with me when I'm at the Capitol pushing for higher teacher quality, increased financial aid, or the full-day voluntary pre-k legislation that our current Governor vetoed.

Our state needs new leadership that will make the necessary investments to ensure Texas continues to have a globally competitive economy.

That's why I'm supporting Bill White for Governor.  Not only has he been a leader in promoting clean energy, responding to Hurricane Katrina, and bringing together all sides to solve tough problems, but he also understands that education holds the key to keeping our state prosperous.

In other words, Bill White knows that we cannot remain 49th in the nation in the percentage of adults with a high school diploma if we want to build the workforce and the leaders necessary to compete with Beijing or Mumbai.  He knows that if we are going to hold students and teachers accountable, we must hold our state leaders accountable as well. He knows that our changing demographics are raising the stakes, offering the state a huge payoff if we successfully improve educational opportunities or a grim future if we don't. He's betting that we can get it right.

That's why I'm supporting Bill White for Governor.

Don't forget he's the Big Bad Wolf... (0.00 / 0)
He also likes to play Big Bad Wolf huffing and puffing and trying to blow that old nasty hirise down in Houston.

The developers just filed a $40 million lawsuit against the City of Houston in the  matter. And it will probably end up blowing down Bill White's political career.

Let the unfounded accusations and wild predictions begin (3.00 / 1)
It wouldn't be primary season without baby snooks trolling around.

Unfounded? (0.00 / 0)
The lawsuit speaks for itself.  He pulled strings pandering to a law firm. And got the city sued.  What does he care if the taxpayers have to pay to defend itself in the lawsuit or the city ends up having to pay tens of millions in damages? He will be governor. And can pull even more strings.  He is without doubt the most corrupt mayor the City of Houston has ever had and that is quite an achievement since most native Houstonians cannot think of a single mayor who wasn't corrupt.

This is added to a long list of strings he pulled. This, however, is the one that may end up strangling him.

Another "troll's" take... (0.00 / 0)
http://blog.kir.com/archives/2...

No zoning means no zoning. Something Bill White thought he could get around by creating ordinances and then when that didn't work applying an ordinance that had never been applied before and hasn't been applied since.

Corrupt is as corrupt does.

Snooks (0.00 / 0)
Without a doubt, Baby Snooks is the most corrupt troller the BOR has ever had and that is quite an achievement since most regular readers cannot think of a single troller who is accurate or ethical.

Oh please... (0.00 / 0)
The major source of this crap about Baby Snooks is in court in Houston defending himself in a defamation suit.  So much for his ethics or accuracy.

Name-calling doesn't do anything but invalidate your already-nonexistent argument.

(Can't believe I'm defending BSnooks.)

I can't believe it either... (0.00 / 0)
Reality is on blogs some don't like the message and when they can't counter it, decide to kill the messenger not realizing you can kill the messenger but not the message.

And now there's Wilshire Village (0.00 / 0)
http://swamplot.com/what-reall...

Wilshire Village for those who don't live in Houston was an apartment complex that the city managed to condemn, without any warning to the owners, within a week.  In a city where slum landlords collect warnings and never pay the fines until the city sues.  Usually a couple of years.

Wedge Group = Bill White = "Let's condemn it, lie to and then screw the owners and foreclose, then flip it."

All these trolls. The ones with their own blogs are the worst, you know?
