MLK Day of Service

PhotobucketPhotobucketLast year, President Obama challenged us to celebrate MLK Day by participating in a national day of service.

Thousands of people volunteered in their communities, and locally, we launched our “Yes We Cans” food drive to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. Our grassroots volunteers went door-to-door and collected over 3,000 pounds!

This year, in addition to collecting food, we're also fundraising for the Haitian relief effort. Let's join together and use our grassroots network to improve people's lives, one donation at a time.

You can get involved by visiting the Obama booth at the MLK Festival on Monday 1/18 at Huston Tillotson University. Or you can come to our regular Texans for Obama meetup on Tuesday 1/19 at Scholz Garten at 6:00pm. If you live outside of Austin, then go online and find a service project near you.

Let's make it our new years resolution to get more involved in community service. You can make the 2010 MLK Day of Service a Texas-sized success by collecting canned food and donating to Haiti.
