Cartoonist Receives Death Threats from Teabaggers

by: Libby Shaw

Fri Jan 08, 2010 at 01:34 PM CST

( - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Teabaggers issue a Fat Waaaaagghhh from Teabagistan.

Apparently teabaggers are as free of humor as they are of facts.

The cartoonist, Mark Fiore's response:

To all of you who have written emails and comments, I really wish I could respond to every one of you.  I truly appreciate your taking the time to write, even if we may be on different sides of the political fence.  If there is one thing that my politically mixed San Francisco/Idaho background has taught me, it is benefit of continuing a discussion even if you don't agree. Too often these days, the Left and the Right immediately shut down if you are deemed to be from the opposing camp.  Here's to good discussion even if we don't agree.

Now please don't kill me :-)

That is a pretty impressive response to hate.

Meanwhile, NPR called the cartoon mean-spirited.

I wonder what NPR thinks of teabagger death threats and the teabagger with the racist sign below?

Just asking.

My U.S. House Representative, John Culberson, by the way, likes to party with these teabaggers and he lied to us all summer long about health care reform.  With representation like this, who needs banana republic type dictators?

Update 1/11/10:

The man holding the sign is Dale Robertson.  He is head of one of the many teabagger operatives.  There are several organizations that use the tea party name.  I guess this guy is in charge of the racist wing of the teabagger movement.

Dale Robertson, a Tea Party activist who operates TeaParty.org, is getting stung for an old photo - taken at the Feb. 27, 2009 Tea Party in Houston - in which he holds a sign reading "Congress = Slaveowner, Taxpayer = Niggar."

Mean-spirited? (3.00 / 1)
NPR and their Republican ombudsman (someone on the DKos link says she will retire soon) need to listen to some conservative talk radio if they want to hear some genuine, all-out, mean-spiritedness each and every day. That picture, too.

the real tea party (3.00 / 1)
I guess they forgot the Boston Tea Party was nonviolent, aside from the actual tea dumping.

He looks familiar (0.00 / 0)
That sign-holding guy looks a lot like the one who was stalking me at the Irving town hall where Pete Sessions performed his live-and-let-die show.

The photo above was taken in Houston (0.00 / 0)
where he had been attending a teabag rally in Feb.09.  He was asked to leave b/c of his despicable sign.

Taxes (3.00 / 1)
Why are so many people unhappy? Is it really because of taxes?  I wonder what that guy holding the sign does for a living? How much money did he make last year? Does he even have a job? Or is he hired by someone to stand there with that sign? He certainly seems serious...holding some kind of paperwork (maybe a petition)? Did he vote in the last election? Does he have children? Is he somebody's husband or boyfriend? Did he graduate from high school or college? I admire his activism. Does he realize he's a community organizer? What does he read and/or listen to every day?

Can't see the dudes face (0.00 / 0)
under the baseball cap.  Is that Harry Reid?

Reid? The beer belly is too big (0.00 / 0)
The teabagger looks more like Dick Cheney w/o the snarl.

BTW (0.00 / 0)
if you blow up the pic you can clearly see the bottom word is covered and the word photo shopped over it.  Don't know the story but assume the sign was confiscated covered and enterprising taxers added the word.

Forgot to ask (0.00 / 0)
Harry's recent comment was in private and he has admitted to the statement. So is it OK for D's to be racist if its in private?

I see you have memorized (0.00 / 0)
GOP talking point crapola this morning.  Equating a stupid, ignorant remark, that has been forgiven by the President, by the way, with a life long segregationist and racist from the South ain't going to stick.

[ Parent ]
Haven't memorized anything (0.00 / 0)
I look at the news MYSELF and make my own opinion.  My opinion is that if an R had made the same statement and the President forgave them they would still be out of office in less than a week.  Can't see how you could argue with that.

In fact consider if that same R had said similar to the following: :

Reid once asked a reporter whether she "spoke English" and urged her to "turn up your Miracle Ear."

He once said you can tell it's summertime at the Capitol "because you can smell the visitors, [who] stand out in the high humidity, heat, and they sweat." He called President George W. Bush a "loser," Justice Clarence Thomas "an embarrassment" and Bill Frist, his predecessor as majority leader, "amateurish." He referred to Alan Greenspan as a "hack." And he had to backtrack after saying the U.S. was "losing" the war in Iraq.

Loser, embarrassment, amateurish, hack?  Look in the mirror Harry!!!

Reid may have said some (3.00 / 1)
pretty stupid and insensitive things but he is spot on with some of it.

He called President George W. Bush a "loser," Justice Clarence Thomas "an embarrassment" and Bill Frist, his predecessor as majority leader, "amateurish." He referred to Alan Greenspan as a "hack."

I suppose Frist's attempts to have the guvmint interfere with Terri Shiavro's case was AOK.  And Greenspan said Wall St.'s evil financial derivative swaps and sub-prime loans were harmless.  I say this stuff is straight from the depths of loserville, as were the WMD's in Iraq.   W. has been deemed the worst U.S. President in modern history and  his Administration delivered the worst economy in modern history.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

Y'all sure have a lot to be proud of including Rudy Giuliani who said 9/11 didn't happen on W.'s watch.  I guess Rudy thinks we're all stoopid.

[ Parent ]
Rudy Obama connection (1.00 / 1)
Rudy was just using the same rhetoric as Obama.  He was "handed a mess from the previous administration".  Works both ways in the real world.

By the way speaking of WMD's, did you notice that the underwear bomber (AKA Jockey Jihadist) was arraigned on  charges which include trying to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempted murder, willful attempt to destroy an aircraft, placing a bomb on a plane and possession of a destructive device. I think Sadam smuggled all the WMD's out of Iraq in the laundry disguised as dirty underwear. Who's gonna search that? Brilliant.

I'm no teabagger, but ... (0.00 / 0)
it was John Lennon who recorded his song "Woman is the Nigger of the World", making the point that women are/were (1972) treated like, you know.  Was he being a racist, or a feminist?  Or both?  And was Lennon's way of making a point - while artistically superior - substantially different from Robertson's?  It's worth thinking about before knee-jerking to any conclusions.

You're right. (0.00 / 0)
Dale Robertson is an artist. How could we have missed that?

[ Parent ]
This is no knee-jerk reaction (0.00 / 0)
I could plaster up more than a few photos from the teabagger events this past summer in which attendees showed up with vile and racist signs and assault weapons.  When in Washington D.C. in Sept. I witnessed a sign depicting President Obama as Hitler.

There are a bunch of seriously sick puppies in the teabagger movement.

A few photos?? The hipocracy continues (0.00 / 0)
This link http://www.ringospictures.com/... has around 200 pictures depicting Bush as Hitler as well as many antisemitic posters.  All from protests in one city from 2004-2009.   What shall we call this group of citizens?  Knee-jerkocrats, hipocrocrats? Progressives?
