TX-Gov: Rick Perry Refuses to Rule Out a Future Trans-Texas Corridor

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Thu Oct 22, 2009 at 05:27 PM CDT

The Texas Democratic Party recently attacked Perry for "taking a toll on Texans" -- and today they attacked Hutchison for voting to allow toll roads to be built, then hypocritically rallying against them.

This video shows how Perry still does not plan to actually end his beloved TTC project:

Question: "Would Proposition 11 prevent future Trans-Texas corridors from seizing private land."

Perry: "This is where a government entity can take a piece of property and hand it over to a private developer for development, to enhance tax revenues. When we're building highways in the state of Texas, that still stays the sovreign land of the state of Texas. So when the next road that's built in the state of Texas and there's eminent domain [unclear word] that goes into place..."

[Camera operator]: That's quite the spin.

From the YouTube channel "Perry's Reality" -

The account that puts up this -- and other -- anti-Perry YouTube videos is most likely run by a Hutchison operative (though I have no way of knowing that -- it could be someone from one of the Democratic campaigns as well).

Regardless, the fact that Perry was asked -- rather point blank -- about whether or not the constitutional amendment  prohibits future Trans-Texas Corridors, and ducked the question, is newsworthy.

Huh? (0.00 / 0)
Was that Rick Perry giving a lecture on Eminent Domain?

Libby, can we add another one to the Hall of Hypocrites?

Blast Off!!!

I wouldn't discount... (0.00 / 0)
... that it may have come from Hank's campaign.

Instead of Bloviating (0.00 / 0)
why isn't Rick Perry screaming about the deaths from swine flu and how even though Region 6 (which includes Texas) leads the nation in pediatric deaths (15) as of October 10th, we have received the fewest number of vaccine doses than all but one state? The explanation:

Federal officials said the explanation is simple: Texas got fewer doses because it asked for less than other states.

God Help Us.

Good catch... (5.00 / 1)
...I keep telling people it's not dead, despite the theatrics on October 6th.

There were two things that concerned me about the supposed demise, again, of the TTC...

1) HB 3588 is STILL in place. It gives any future Legislature the ability to go back and restart this project.

2) TXDOT has NOT sent in the simple, one page letter to the Federal Highway Adminstration (FHwA) that would officially kill the TTC. Instead, they're having six more months of public meetings, at considerable cost to Texas taxpayers,  which they only have to do to get approval for the Final Environmental Impact Study (FEIS). Even with the selection of the 'no build option', they can still go back and re-activate the project with the approved FEIS.

Much like a vampire, this thing will not die until someone puts a wooden stake through it's heart. And that's exactly what I'm going to do in Januray, 2011. After fighting this abysmally bad project spawned from the febrile brain of our hypocritical Governor, NOTHING WILL MAKE ME HAPPIER.
