Texas GOP Hall of Hypocrites

by: Libby Shaw

( - promoted by Phillip Martin)

According to the DCCC there are 67 House Republicans  who voted against the stimulus package.  But when these no voters are back in their home states they like to brag and swagger about bringing home the bacon.    On a different level, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison joins these ranks.  She voted against the stimulus bill and yet she criticized Rick Perry for turning down federal funding for extended unemployment benefits.

Texas has its fair share of outstanding hypocrites.  Check the list below to see if your U.S. House Rep. is included in the GOP Hall of Hypocrites.  I must admit that I am not shocked to learn that my U.S. Rep., John Culberson, is among them.  I betcha your U.S. Reps are too.

The hypocrites above also oppose health care reform period, whether or not it includes a public option.  The opponents of health care reform are obviously totally on board with health insurance monopolies and against competition.

While they fight against HCR tooth and nail, these very same hypocrites receive the very best taxpayer funded guvmint run socialist health care for a cool $500.00 per year.  Remember folks, these are the very same lawmakers that have no plan to stop the annual dying of over 44,000 uninsured Americans.   Republicans simply do not care.  Not a zip.

As U.S. House Rep. Grayson said, the Republican plan is:

Don't Get Sick.

If, God forbid, you should fall sick, Republicans want you to.

Die quickly.

Apparently the supposed leader of the RNC, Michael Steele, thinks the PO is a good idea, but we shouldn't have it.

Who on earth votes for these idiots?

NASA Funding (3.00 / 1)
One-way tickets to the Moon?

They already know so much about otherworldliness. Soooo much.

there's already a word (3.00 / 1)
for the practice of voting against something and then taking credit for it in front of the folks at home, and it's based on one of Texas' very own.

The word is Grammstanding, after the senator from A&M, Phil Gramm.

Burgess (0.00 / 0)
Burgess routinely does this. He explains himself as fiscally conservative, but will then come back to local media about how much money he has brought back to the district for various projects a.k.a. pork.

Oddly enough he has become to talking head for the GOP on the health care debate as well. I will give him credit though for voting to extend the Ryan White Act, unlike some other TX representatives.

Are you referring to the same Gramm (3.00 / 1)
who, while serving in the U.S. Senate, worked day in and day out to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act?  This brilliant move ultimately led to the Enron and Wall St. debacle.   The Glass-Steagall act had been implemented as a financial safety net following the Great Depression. Its purpose was to prevent future financial melt downs. Oh, and Mrs. Wendy Gramm, who worked for Enron, had sold her shares just b/f the company imploded.  She made off with $276,912.

Those Republicans sure know how to take care of themselves while letting everyone else go to hell.

I'll ask again, who votes for these people?

Wrong! (0.00 / 0)
After voting no but the stimulus passing anyway Texans still have to pay their share of the $875 BILLION.  Might as well get our share.  Now if the bill said, "if a state refuses the money they will not be exorbitantly taxed for repayment of the stimulus then we have a positive situation.  I'm figuring $3000 per person.  Well . . .  that is if you pay taxes.

Well then (0.00 / 0)
the Republican hypocrites should tell us all to stop paying taxes. And then we will all go to jail. And then they could make a lot of money building jails. And then they would execute us.

Yes, we may as well get our fair share (0.00 / 0)
precisely b/c we all pay taxes that will ultimately pay for the economic stimulus.

No one bellyached when Bush gave the top 1-2% of the wealthy deep tax cuts thereby sticking the lion's share of the tax burden on those earning less than $250K per year.  It's funny how Republicans can convince less wealthy voters how slashing taxes for 1-2% of the population is a good thing for those who are stuck making up the shortfall.  Oh, please, stick me with more taxes so the rich can get richer by hiding and offshoring their mega bucks.

[ Parent ]
Lets talk our fair share (0.00 / 0)
Lets say Joe made 32,500 and paid his share of 2008 taxes (15%) which was $4500.  John made $357,000 and paid $104,000 his share of 2008 taxes (35%).  This would be after the Bush tax cuts.  John pays about $99,500 more in taxes than Joe, again after the Bush tax cut.

In 2008 the top 1% of earners paid about 40% of total taxes.  An 11% increase over 1999.  Bush not President in 1999.  By the way the top 1% of earners accounted for just 21% of the total adjusted gross income.  Guess John should find a different offshore account to hide those "megabucks".

So basically if we took ALL Joe's income (that would be $100%)gave it to the government "sticking" him with more taxes he would still be $67,000 ahead of John.  Lions share?

BTW (0.00 / 0)
The above figures do not include sales, property, and state taxes which would further skew the advantage to Joe.

[ Parent ]
Forgot to add to the Hall O Hypocrites (0.00 / 0)
all the Dems and Libs nominated by Obama that "forgot" to pay taxes.

Who are you talking to? n/t (0.00 / 0)

You really do need (0.00 / 0)
to go with them.
