Senator John Cornyn Lies About Healthcare Reform

by: Libby Shaw

Mon Sep 21, 2009 at 02:16 PM CDT

The Huffinton Post reveals that Senate GOP intends to send out misleading mailers from a so-called non-partisan and vague task force called:

U.S.Senate Health Care Task Force

The mailer is actually commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee and it is by no means non-partisan.  The letter is signed by yours truly John Cornyn.

All of these descriptions are either intentionally misleading or deeply contested interpretations of the health care provisions put forth by Democrats. And while the name and NRSC title -- "Chairman" -- of Senator John Cornyn, (R-Texas) is listed in the header, there is no mention of the fact that he's a Republican. Only in the sixth paragraph is it revealed that "Republican leadership of the United States Senate" commissioned the survey.

This is yet another pathetic attempt for pimped out Republicans to kill health care reform.

The mailer uses the usual GOP fear mongering tactics by insisting that a lottery system will be set up that will determine who does and does not get care. The system will be based on age, race and gender.

Among the lies.

are you concerned that health care rationing could lead to:

23. Denial of treatment in cases where the patient's prospects are deemed not good?
24. A "lottery" system of determining who will get priority treatment?
25. A "quota" system which would determine who would determine who would get treatment on the basis of race or age?

More Lies:

The U.S. government can and will:

Pick who is "eligible" for certain medical procedures? • Pick your doctor for you? • Restrict certain medical procedures on the basis of age? • Put strict price controls on medicine and drugs? • Penalize you for choosing to see a private doctor • Seriously undermine private health care insurers who currently serve tens of millions of Americans?

The letter is also a cheap attempt to solicit donations from the people they terrify.

In addition to asking recipients to fill out the survey, Cornyn also encourages donations "of at least $25, $50, or even $100 to help finance this project and elect Republicans to the U.S. Senate."

Elect more Republicans?  Surely Cornyn is joking.  If this is the best the GOP can do for health care reform, why not vote for death panels?

Enough of the lies. We're not paying John Cornyn's salary and his health care insurance for this kind of vile and disingenuous behavior.

Let's all stop and take a few minutes to give our dear Senator a blistering piece of our minds.  I think the Senator needs a not so gentle reminder that Texas has the highest number of uninsured residents.  Does he care?  Obviously not.  He is as out of touch as Governor Rick Perry and his

What recession?

The entire letter and its enclosed survey can be seen at the link above.

So, what is John Cornyn's real problem with health care reform?
