Last night the President said he wanted to work together and bring out the best in both parties.
I applaud the President's noble efforts but, with all due respect, I cannot see how this is possible given that we do not know if there is a best side of the Republican Party. What is meant by "best" I wonder?

This summer we have witnessed some of the most hateful and deceitful town hall meetings in recent U.S. history.
I have never in my life heard such vile and mean rhetoric, even in my youth during the Vietnam War protesting days.
I did not recognize my country this summer.
What have we become?
Lie after lie spewed forth from the mouths of Republican lawmakers and some of their supporters.
According to the hateful and untrue rhetoric, health care reform means the government will kill Granny, cut Medicare, the public option is a government takeover that will fund abortions and give coverage to illegal immigrants.
We learned that Republican lawmakers and their sugar daddy lobbyists and health care special interest groups ginned up these so called "grass roots" hate fests. Employees of health care companies attended some of these meetings pretending to be average Joes and Janes. We have seen extremists show up with assault rifles strapped to their bodies.
The orchestrated meetings are reminiscent of Sarah Palin's hate fests that brought out the very worst and the most ugly of ugly in us.
They were frightening painful to watch. They brought shame and fear straight to our hearts.
So, what is good about this group of hate and fear mongering Republicans?
I would like to know given the events posted below.
Last night a Republican lawmaker, Joe Wilson, heckled the President of the United States during a joint meeting of Congress.
Apparently Wilson hates democracy because he sure can't do a civil debate. Several years ago Joe Wilson verbally bullied another invited guest on CSPAN's Washington Journal. When Wilson could not handle the fact that the U.S. had given WMDs to Iraq during the Iraq/Iran war, he accused the other guest of hating America.
TX-7 Rep. John Culberson did not feel like answering a question posed to him by Lawrence O'Donnell on national TV and so he threw a temper tantrum.
The Bush Administration told us for years they did not torture political prisoners when in fact the Administration had been doing so all along.
Michelle Bachmann (MN) recently promoted "slitting wrists" over health care reform.
And then there are the Bush Administration's tales of terrorism.
Rep. Gingrey (GA) encouraged folks to bring weapons to town hall meetings.
Rick Perry talked secession nonsense all summer long.
Kay Bailey Hutchison lied about health care reform, calling it a government takeover.
I am sorry folks but I don't see any best side to any of this. Most of what Republicans say above is a pack of bald face lies. It is all crazy, nuts, insane, un-American, and undemocratic.
So, how do we do the quantum leap from the
it is all about me and mine and my sugar daddy donor
tantrum throwing narcissists above to the American values and principles of altruism below?
