Sen. Leticia Van de Putte: Win Two Free Tickets to Friday Night DNC Reception!

by: Phillip Martin, Progress Texas

Wed Sep 09, 2009 at 11:02 AM CDT

Exclusive for BOR Readers!

Why do you want to attend the DNC reception Friday night? Answer correctly, and you can win two free tickets to the reception!

State Senator Leticia Van de Putte -- who is always a champion of the netroots! -- is giving away two tickets to Friday night's DNC reception and fundraiser hosted by the Texas Democratic Party. This event is not open to the general public, as it is an official event for DNC members and elected officials....which means you can either spend a lot of money to get in, or win two free tickets here at Burnt Orange Report!

Here are the guidelines for this (unofficial & fun) ticket giveaway:
  1. Leave a note in the comments about why you want to attend the event -- the funnier & more humorous, the better!

  2. Comments must be received by 11:59pm tonight (Wednesday, September 9, 2009).

  3. You must have a valid e-mail address assigned with your account, OR leave a valid e-mail address in your comment where we can contact you in the morning.

  4. We will notify the winner after midnight; the winner will have until 10am to "claim" his or her tickets; after 10am, the BOR staff reserves the right to choose someone they like better.

  5. The cracker jack staff of Burnt Orange Report will determine who left the best comment. The winner will win two tickets (for him/her and a guest) to the event.

  6. The BOR staff is the only group deciding the winner, and KT has told me that he reserves the right to not give away a ticket to a Republican, a lobbyist, or anyone that may have annoyed him in the recent past. (Which means that I'm out of the running...)

Below are the official details of the Friday night event. Remember -- this is simply a fun ticket giveaway (not an official contest).

Our endless thanks to State Senator Leticia Van de Putte for reaching out to us for this opportunity!

Good luck -- and happy commenting!

Event Details:

When: Friday, September 11, 6:30pm - 10:30pm

Who: DNC Members, Elected Officials, & Maybe YOU!

Where: Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch in Buda, TX (MAP)

P.S. Don't forget that the Burnt Orange Report party Thursday night -- "Netroots 'N Boots" -- is also goign on, in case you don't win! More details on Facebook, and in a future post from the site...

Was that intentional irony? (3.00 / 1)
I wonder who decided the idea of Democrats gathering in Texas qualified as "Exotic Game"...

Thought the whole "Disposal Systems" aspect is a wee bit worrying...

I know, it's like a National Dems photosafari-with BARBECUE!!! ;)

Yes, Virginia, there are Democrats in Texas.  Kicking shit and taking names.

Will bribery work? (3.00 / 1)
I will offer my extra ticket to one of the awesome BOR staff who makes the decision that I'm the lucky winner. I promise to mention how much I love BOR to every person I meet and work it in subtly into every conversation. I will even offer KT a luxurious ride to Buda in my Prius.

I promise... (3.00 / 1)
...not to shoot any humans in the face if I get tickets to the DNC event at the game ranch. The wildebeest may not be so lucky.

ok now that's funny (0.00 / 0)
"I promise not to shoot any humans..." is a pretty low bar, but not bad.

I want to get rid of Gohmert. (0.00 / 0)
I have needled my way into the Party for the last four years in a quest to find someone who is willing to take out Gohmert.

I have been offered guest credentials to the convention and need to get in and persuade or find someone who is actually willing to make a run for it.

Roger Owen was and is still an idiot who had dreams of grandeur in March and April, but he showed his true self to everyone by hiding after making the ballot.

Let me in so I can find someone willing to take out Gohmert.

I only need one ticket. (0.00 / 0)

I can't go (0.00 / 0)
a I have a date with the UT volleyball team tomorrow night - as well as the annual Barbecue Brawl between Elgin and Taylor - but I will note that disposals haven't been considered 'exotic' in Buda for many years now.

A love note from a gun-toting, Second Amendment loving Democratic Woman (3.67 / 3)
How many Democratic Women from Denton County have EVER been on an Exotic Hunting Ranch?  How many would know what to do once they got there?

With God as my witness, I am that gun-toting, Second Amendment loving, Democratic Woman from Denton County and I would be so happy if I won those tickets to the DNC Reception in Austin.  And, believe me, you want me happy--you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Please pick me! (3.00 / 1)

What can I say except I really WANT to go to this reception. The question I have is will I be bussed to this event and do I need permission from my parents?

Why I want to go. (3.50 / 2)
Sure, I could try and argue that the tickets are best in the hand of a young political science student who started volunteering at the state convention at 14. I could even argue I might be able to learn something while I'm there. But there are hundreds more people like that in Austin. Instead, let me set the scene.

Dusk is falling on the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch, a frowzy breeze blowing in from the "hills". The sounds of mingling, laughing, and glasses can be heard by the Addax, Aoudad, and Blesbok watching nearby.

See that's the real reason I want the tickets. I don't want to graze with Brazile, Tobias, or Kaine. I want to watch Greater Kudu, Nubian Ibex, and Red Lechwe do do the same.

Of course, there will be risks. Pack animals move together, and a stampede could happen. But that's the cherry on top, at the reception a stampede will be impossible. You can never get that many Democrats to agree on anything that quickly.

Another love note from ANOTHER gun-toting, Second Amendment loving, Democratic Woman from Denton County (0.00 / 0)

I'm a good friend of T Medellin's (see comment above), and if one of us wins we are both going.  That's good news because between the 2 of us, we have a small arsenal...And you really don't want to piss the BOTH of us off...

But if we win, we promise to be all lady-like and such. Really, we will.

UNLESS the game ranch lets loose some of our favorite game, such as the well-known species Texus Ignoramus....commonly known as "Texas Teabagger."  Then all bets are off!

And you know...MY VP Toni won't let them off with a few face scratches!  You go girl!

I'd like to propose a resolution (0.00 / 0)
WHEREAS, the Freedom of Information Act was signed into law on July 4, 1966 by President Lyndon Johnson with an intent to include phone conversations that will provide solid, free entertainment during an economic crisis;

WHEREAS, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) offered a floor speech supporting increased wiretapping and surely wouldn't mind if his phone conversations were made available to the public; and

WHEREAS, Congressman Wilson referred to the President of the United States as a Liar during the President's address to a joint session of Congress; and

WHEREAS, when the Congressman called the President to offer a partially sincere apology, he instead was permitted to speak to the President's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel; and

WHEREAS, Rahm Emanuel is known in Washington circles as a vicious, potty-mouthed attack dog; and

WHEREAS, the American public has the right to know if Rahm put Wilson in his place;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the DNC calls on the White House or Congressman Wilson to release a copy of the phone conversation between Emanuel and Wilson on  the evening of September 9, 2009.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DNC` believes that all phone conversations between Emanuel and loud-mouthed, inconsiderate Republicans be streamed on the Internet.

Well (0.00 / 0)
I already have a date Friday night with a Dallas Republican...he doesn't wear it on his sleeve, you know. And he has very nice sleeves. My weakness, I'm afraid. But I just found out and I should have known because he kept muttering about math panels, the horror of math panels (he's a very outgoing and I thought, funny, accountant) but oh, God, he was really going on and on about death panels and I just missed that, he didn't seem that political, so please even if I don't win the tickets, can I tell him we're going to drive down to Buda for a hot date on an exotic ranch (he'll love that!) ~ and then can I dump him in the landfill or more politely leave him on the ranch? He is, after all, an endangered species and he should feel right at home.

A man's last wish, before being sent to the death chamber... (0.00 / 0)
(Disclaimer: Please read the following comment in the most exciting Billy Mays voice you can come up with).

HELP! HELP! HELP!

Barack Hussein Obama is President!
He wants to take away my guns!
He wants to talk to my kids at school about EDUCATION!
All this, and he is not even American. He should not even BE President.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

Now he wants to send me, as well as all senior citizens in the United States, to the death chambers!

Sarah Palin has explained that President Obama considers my condition, "dance fever," as a terminal illness. I fear that I may not have much longer to live...

With our Democratic majority, and these progressive ideals of equal opportunity, affordable health care, and a smart International Relations agenda, my days seem numbered.

So, BOR, this is my last wish. Send me to the Democratic National Committee fiesta!

And remember, if you don't, you are as bad as Sarah.

Best,

fady.hanalla@gmail.com

This chica keeps it real! (0.00 / 0)
OK OK you have had many great responses, and I know it's late, but now it's my turn!

I may not be a gun toutin', bribing, begging Democrat.... but some would call me a wise (a$$) Latina who works hard for the party!

I rome the Capitol grounds during the session, attend late night hearings, choke down the occasional steak dinner, and amend amend amend until the people prevail!  My bill subjects may not be the most glamorous (don't you think that stormwater management is crucial to the ETJ?), but they are honest and beneficial!  I may not make the big bucks, but I sleep well at night.  All of this is important to remember when you get over involved in the chorizo-making process that is Texas politics.

This opportunity would not be lost on THIS young lady!  I would shake hands, smile big, but most importantly.... learn.  Learn from my party and become even more energized!

I am more confident than ever in my party.  The other side of the aisle has been looking pretty silly lately.  Their misinformation and unwillingness to engage in a civil debate makes me embarrassed for them!  There is no such thing as Death Panels and we refer to it as Facebook, not "the" facebook.  Out of touch old guys can't win us over with their scare tactics (Yes, I'm talking to you Pete Olson)!

Now, if you excuse me, I have to rummage through my closet for a suitable outfit for friday.  One for if I get tickets to the DNC reception, and another for the alternative (sobbing into a cheap beer all night at Katz's... heck, it never Kloses!)

I know its late, (0.00 / 0)
but I did not post for a reason...  My entry is not as much humorous as serious with a bit of sarcasm.  I did not want to spoil the competition by being grimly somber.

I would tell every DNC Member that Obama should be more like LBJ.  If Grassley had done what he did to LBJ, LBJ would have Grassley's bronzed B@lls on his desk.  LBJ would have all the Blue Dogs yelping in support of health care reform.

I would tell every DNC Member that Pelosi should be more like Sam Rayburn.  By now, Sam would have a DRAFT farm bill circulating that cuts all Corporate Welfare subsidies from Con-Agra, Monsanto, Archer-Daniels-Midland and every corporate "farm" in excess of 640 acres.  Let Grassley, Baucus, Nelson, Lincoln and all the Farm Belt Senator try to sell that to their "constituents".  Hey, if we can't afford heath care, here's a way to cut some deficit.
