Today: Rally for Health Care in Austin With Lloyd Doggett!

by: Katherine Haenschen

Fri Aug 28, 2009 at 11:34 AM CDT

(Saturday Morning update: We're expecting capacity crowds. There will be overflow seating at the AFL-CIO at 1106 Lavaca and the TTLA at 1220 Colorado. See you there! - promoted by Katherine Haenschen)

We can't wait any longer for real health care reform. President Barack Obama's election gives us the opportunity to organize for the legislative change we so desperately need. Now, we need to stand up and speak out in favor of real health care reform!

The numbers are dire. 47 million Americans have no health insurance. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the country. 18% of Austinites have no insurance. The chance to reform our health care system will not come again in a generation. We need to do all we can to organize for real reform.

Stand Up And Be Counted!

If you're in or around Austin, head out to tomorrow's rally for health care reform with Congressman Lloyd Doggett. This issue is too important. We can't stay home and wait for others to fix our broken health insurance system. We're the ones we've been waiting for!

Real Voices for Change Forum
featuring
Congressman Lloyd Doggett

Saturday, August 29th
3:00 p.m.
First United Methodist Church
1201 Lavaca, Austin, TX

Organized By
MoveOn, Organizing for America,
Gray Panthers, Texans for Obama,
Texas Democratic Party, Travis County Democratic Party,
and Health Care For All Texas

Please be there early if you can. We've received word that a group of Texas secessionists are planning to disrupt the rally. All the more reason for folks who support real health care reform get out there and show our strength in numbers.

Stand up and be counted, and join us tomorrow at 12th and Lavaca. Health care reform can't wait!

So how is this not Astroturfing?:

P.S. the Google Ad above the comment box on this particular article is www.ObamaCareTruth.org, thought that was kinda ironic, don't you think?

Pretty obvious (3.67 / 3)
The groups are all publicly announcing who is putting it on. The same thing doesn't happen w/ the astroturf events.

Also, one group wants to continue rewarding insurance companies, and the other wants to lower the cost of health care for Americans.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

What do you mean astroturf? (3.00 / 1)
Exactly which of these named sponsors are you suggesting are financed entirely by corporate interests for the purpose of advancing corporate profits?

As long as corporations are people and money is speech, then democracy is a farce.

Also at 1pm Saturday (3.00 / 1)
there will be a rally for health care on the Capitol steps and picnic on the south lawn. Bring your signs and hats. Enjoy the company of progressives from Dallas to San Antonio. I hope to see you there.

As long as corporations are people and money is speech, then democracy is a farce.
