Though many dismissed the talk about Henry Cisneros running for governor as pure rumor, the former San Antonio Mayor told the Austin American-Statesman that he “was tempted” to run but after recently discussing it with his wife he will not continue to consider entering the race.
“I was tempted,” [Cisneros] said. “It may be the last opportunity that I have (to run statewide). I sat down and talked to my wife about it. We are really trying to build our business nationally… We are going to spend the next 20 years building our business” and tending to the needs of their family and city.
While Cisneros has some scandals in his past, he remains popular among many Texas Democrats and would have likely been able to easily win the Democratic primary against any of the candidates running or currently considering running for Governor.
